Price reductions of any kind are few and far between these days, but general admission to the 2008 Franklin County Fair is less than the previous year. However, only those skipping the midway rides will realize the savings.

The eight-day 2008 Franklin County Fair, whose theme this year is “Over the Top,” begins Saturday, July 12 at the fairgrounds in Hilliard, 4100 Columbia St. The summer tradition continues through July 19.

Last year, general admission to the fair was $8 or $9, depending on the day, and included rides. This year, fair organizers have slashed the gate price to $5 or $6, depending on the day; parking and all daily events and grandstand entertainment is included in the cost.

    I think $5 for a regular county fair is about tops on what I am willing to spend.

    The fair opened up yesterday morning — but so did the sky a few hours later. So the barn offered shelter from the drizzle to go along with the exhibits crafted by 4-H clubs and Girl Scout troops.

    Aside from the exhibits, visitors also will find magic shows, petting zoos and the usual collection of rides and concessions. The fair runs until Saturday.

    Admission is $5 except for the last two days, when the price jumps to $6. An all-day ride pass costs $12.

    good to see a price finally go down…. not up. :D between gas and the material i need for work on the rise, its nice to see something thats fun and enjoyable go down in price.

    Anne & I decided to go today since we’ve never been to the county fair before and it’s always nice to say you’ve at least tried something out. Desi enjoyed looking at all the animals, and we got our quick fix of deep-fried-lunch. Not a bad time, but we still prefer the State Fair for junk food, cow petting, and people watching.
