Pete Loscocco enjoys the sense of history he experiences every time he walks into the Alpha Building at the corner of Long and 17th streets in the King Lincoln Arts & Entertainment District.

He said that feeling is a big reason why he and his wife, Laurie, have taken on the renovation of a building that had fallen on hard times in an impoverished neighborhood long before they bought it three years ago.

“It really was a situation where my interest in history, old buildings and Columbus intersected,” said Loscocco, a Columbus area resident and vice president with Hexion Specialty Chemicals Inc. “My interest first and foremost was restoring an old building with a lot of history and hopefully making it work as an investment as well.”

  • This building is a nice effort. I have stalked it a bit.

  • I live around the corner from this building and I’ve watched Peter lovingly restore the place for well over a year. It’s been a giant project and he’s put every bit of himself into the place. Our Bronzeville neighborhood is much better for it.

Last week on the news I saw a school bus had run into the building but the next day I saw it only scuffed one wall. A small local coffee shop will be going in to the corner downstairs space and the rest of it will hopefully soon be leased. The giant upstairs space is full of light, exposed brick and show great — and Peter really wants to rent it so if you know anyone, send them over.
