A fast-paced lottery game is to come to as many as 1,100 bars and restaurants across Ohio in July, with bets as high as $20 a ticket and jackpots reaching $2 million.
The Ohio Lottery Commission approved rules governing the Keno game in a 5-3 vote yesterday, with the split reflecting continuing unease about the lottery’s foray into more casino-style gambling.
Keno is offered in 11 other states and features drawings every four minutes. Players place bets on an array of numbers, which are displayed on television monitors in bars, restaurants and fraternal clubs that are licensed for Keno.
Some bars already sell lottery tickets, but Keno represents the Ohio Lottery’s first big incursion into businesses that offer a social experience rather than mere products.
