Born and raised in Columbus, V!bes effortlessly electrocutes their listeners with obscene amounts of energy, enthusiasm, and good old-fashioned reggae pop-rock. Unfortunately, easy listening reggae-pop bands have been rather non-existent this past decade, with the absence of bands like 311, Sublime, The Dirty Heads and Pepper. Luckily for Columbus, the five-piece recently debuted their EP on March 12 at the A&R Bar, packing the venue full with fans, friends and family. Just in time for sunshine and outdoor shows, V!bes caters to the free-spirited crowd, emphasizing bright themes, smooth melodies, and rhythmic percussion, catering a child’s play environment for adults.

V!bes’s 2015 EP, Buyin’ Big, features five original tracks, kicking off the EP with up-beat, reggae-infused pop, “Beatocide.” With an immediate blast of energy, the track explodes with vocalist Kevin Wharff’s smooth vocals cooing the track name, “Beatocide,” backed with Mitch’s hoppy bass and Brandon’s animated percussion. Analogous to “Beatocide,” V!bes’ track “Mine,” is romantic, charming and whimsical — the perfect soundtrack to dancing with your loved one under a gazebo while the sun is setting, and the sunflowers are dancing. With such ease, V!bes fosters the perfect festival-style evening, flooded with sunshine and good company.
