As part of a new High Street cleaning initiative, South Campus Gateway purchased a sidewalk sweeper that will vacuum trash from Chittenden Avenue to Lane Avenue during the day Thursday to Monday.
The notoriously cluttered and littered neighborhoods near High Street will receive a face lift in the next few months.
The effort to improve the area is led by a coalition of university and local leaders comprised of the Underground Student Government, University Community Business Association, South Campus Gateway and Campus Partners.

Local coalition pursues cleaner High Street

 Ever since I moved here, I wondered why someone doesn’t take a power washer and just clean up High St.!!!
Now, if we can get people to stop throwing trash into their own front yards…….
The street is littered with Faygo bottles after ICP is at the Newport.
This is also a HUGE HELP to cycling as these regular sweeps will hopefully pick up those bits of glass, staples, nails, and sharp stuff that deflate a tire.
Underground student government? Is that a misprint? I think undergraduate student government sounds right. :?:
It’s a conspiracy. Walker has been able to garner enough influence to buy off OSU student government. Next step, City Council! :D
Good to see this. Hopefully a cleaner High St. in the UD will lead to more pride of neighborhood by the students.
Now if we can just get rid of the giant dumpsters in Weinland Park!!!
Are those machines actually effective at cleaning sidewalks? My experience with them has not been overwhelming positive…but I suppose appearances can be deceiving.
From my early experience of employment, those machines do not do an adequate job of picking anything up. A two man crew with brooms can do much better and a much more thorough job.
