Liquid, the new cafe, lounge and weekend danceclub located in the Short North sets its grand opening date for Saturday, May 17. Doors will open to the public at 7PM. The party will feature complimentary hors d’oeuvres, specialty drinks, professional dancers and live DJ entertainment. Liquid is a full service restaurant and lounge open seven days a week, featuring Liquid Lunch specials and Happy hour + small plates. “Liquid is open to everyone for lunch, dinner and happy hour,” says Deborah Yankulov, club owner. “Our Chef, Sherri Brunner, has put together an eclectic cafe-style menu serving delicious food at decent prices.” Yankulov says to expect some sizzle on the weekends when the entire club will be transformed to ladie’s night every Friday and Saturday night. The space is outfitted with a complete light and sound system, including their very own Liquid lights. Sexy dancers and DJs spinning mainstream club dance music will be part of the entertainment, along with monthly themed parties and impromptu staff performances. “We want this to be a fun place where the ladies can come out, have a great time and feel comfortable who they are,” says Yankulov. Liquid also plans a lush outdoor patio garden, which will be smoker-friendly.

Yeah, as Andrew Hall (I think?) pointed out…the female symbol in the name should have been a dead give away for the lesbian status, but I missed it completely LOL!

  • Ndcent

    Liquid…where bad haircuts unite.

  • columbus native

my guess is sausage fest less than 2 months deep!

  • WILDMAN

i just checked out their myspace page and it does cater to sexy, gay woman according to what they said in their “about me” section. i hope they do well. a new place to go to is always a good thing.

    +1

It might not be for everyone, but sounds like it should be a good spot for those who are interested.

    :D

  • kessler

Yeah a quick visit to their myspace page will put an end to the quesion if it is a lesbian bar.

Should also give a new vibe to the Little brothers location.

Good luck to the owner or owners! Sounds like a good idea.

The whole thing seems like a really bad joke.

  • Mister Shifter

I love how they’re trying to cater to “hot” heidi klum-looking lesbians. Good luck with that.

  • CDS sherman

most of columbus lesbians that i know tend to look like this….

Maybe BOMA won’t get picked on so much.

  • Ashland

My neighbor is a lesbian, and she is definitely one of those hot lesbians. Her girlfriend on the other hand, that is a different story.

  • Matthew

I’m a gay dude and I gotta admit lesbians frighten me. No matter how I’ve tried I’ve never really been able to connect with them the way I do straight women.

I would…except for the whole “penis” thing.

I just wanted to put in a good word for the many ridiculously attractive lesbians I know. Sometimes it makes me want to jump the fence!!

That said, I probably won’t frequent Liquid.

These guys I know have been going a few nights this past week….I guess anyone can go…what kind of music?

I really wanted to boycott this place because it replaced little brothers. But because it’s some place I’d never go to begin with, i’ve been denied the ability to boycott out of bitterness.

    Which makes me bitter.

Why would you boycott them? It’s not there fault Little Brothers closed their doors? They are just trying to run a succesfull club.

    Exactly!!

Best of luck to this new venture. I can see this club holding many a live band. Rockin in the streets can happen on a weekly basis with a bar/venue like this! :D

I think it is awesome! At first I thought it was a strip club….I am so happy to hear it is for lesbians…that is awesome. If they have house/techno I am there!!!

If they had any self respect, they’d not change a damn thing and re-open as Little Brothers, IMHO.

LOL if you will, or even ROFL or WTF but IMO its Little Brothers FTW.

  • Ashland

I would not boycott this place, I do not want this girl coming after me:

You guys act like there aren’t any good-looking, regular lesbians out there!

Pretty lesbians are everywhere. The great thing is you can’t tell who we are until you see us kissing a girl, and even THEN it’s assumed that we’re just two straight girls kissing.

That said, my partner and I have VIP passes to Liquid’s opening. Might just check it out.

It’s less boycotting them and the owner of the building-Stelios G. Gianaopoulos- who they will be paying the raised rent that he used to drive Dan Dougan out. It’s just business I guess, but then my business to not cater to anyone that is giving him any money.

i have to agree with ya on that. one of my very close friends of many years is a lesbian and she is very beautiful. here is a lil tip for a lot of people, there are beautiful lesbians everywhere you go. the woman you are looking at and you are thinking, “damn, she looks good”, could be a lesbian. you never know who is who until they make it known.

i don’t know why we have haters but what would the world be w/out them? Like i said before, i hope the club does well. good luck to the new owners.

yeah. i was pretty appalled that Ashland thinks that posting that picture was an appropriate thing to do. but whatever.

thanks for standing up for the truth and equality.

I know I am going to get a lot of the “you knew when you bought a place right behind Little Brothers that it would be loud, so stop bitching” comments – BUT – Liquid is really ridiculously loud. I live directly behind it, literally could throw a rock and hit it, and Liquid is definitely louder that Little Brothers.

I’ve also notice that Saturday night I couldn’t find a parking spot within 2 blocks of my house and the alley was filled with people parking illegally.

I guess I am sort of in the wait and see mode – its the opening weekend so maybe it will get better. If not I guess I will be pretty bitter about having a new loud neighbor that could reduce my property value by constantly throwing parties I’m not invited to just because I’m a dude.

  • Walker

Yeah, I’d say give it a month. I’m willing to bet the opening crowd will die down a bit. ;)

(Oh…don’t look for an apology or a “CDS Sherman is a thoughtless prick” anytime soon. He’s ‘in’…you ain’t)

I’ve been there too…hang in there, brah ;) There will soon be another who dares to rile the group…and they’ll accuse him/her of the unspeakable things we get from time to time lol

Back on topic: am I reading the basic premise of this club as “Portia derossi, come on in!” and then the velvet rope keeps Ellen D the hell out??

I can’t imagine a special-interest bar would lock out…um…99% of their potential clients.

    Hopefully I’m reading wrong…

I think Ellen Degeneres would be fun. She’s a good dancer, at least. If it were my lesbian nightclub, I’d let her in.

They offered more money to the landlord of Little Brother’s. So technically, they did drive LBs out. LBs didn’t just ‘close their doors.’

    People forget so quickly.

Whether y’all like it or not, there’s a clique.

Now i have no probs by characterizing “clique” as “cool smart folk with big hearts, egos and balls” (which is accurate)…but “clique” works better for me than ‘mob’ or ‘junta’.

Pls accept for the tidy compliment that it is, yo.

As for Tues..I’ll be in Chi-Town. Elsewise this dude would abide.

  • Hotti

I live about 2 blocks away on say avenue…its loud enough I could hear it from inside my house with the doors and windows closed!! Little Brotjhers was never that loud and they had some lound punk and metal bands from time to time and raggae etc etc…its hard to understand how the current business would have to v=be that loud.

I hope they get a handle on it before the neighbors rise up and get them shut down or fined or something…I’m pretty sure none of the clubs bordering residential areas are allowed to be that loud.

    Sounds like a fun concept.

  • dredd

Are straight guys allowed to go to the lesbian club? It would be great to go out and not get hit on by chicks all the time.

  • DawonHawkins

did anyone check this place out over the weekend?

We need to talk. While I am very happy for you – it must be very exciting to open a new club – you kept an entire neighborhood up until after 2:30am both nights. The base was the real problem. It vibrated my house. I emailed your website to start a discussion, but no one has gotten back with me. I am sure that there can be a compromise that we all agree to… (turn down the base, pad the walls, keep the noise indoors…) Little Brother’s made sure noise was not a problem with the neighbors. We loved Little Brother’s. Do you want the neighborhood to love or hate you? I think you need to address this problem – sooner rather than later – or you may receive bad press.

    Thanks!!

First of all, welcome to CU. Second, congrats on getting married! Third, you’ve got a whole load of people here that are behind you in your efforts to encourage Liquid to be a good neighbor.

I think brainstorming about friendly and legal means of dealing with this following a failed negotiation would be appropriate, no?

    Good morning!

When riding by this past weekend I’d noticed that they have an outdoor patio area in the back, was this part of little brothers or a new addition?

If it is a new addition could this patio be creating the increased volume?

  • Ndcent

I remember how considerate the staff at Little Brothers was regarding sound. If you ever opened that side door during a show they’d get pissed because of how it let the sound out.

Daniel – Thanks for your kind responses and for welcoming me to your forum! We (the neighborhood) are brainstorming and collecting our resources. We hope for an amicable outcome.

Kessler – The patio is indeed new. And yes, that is where the noise is coming from. I mean ‘booming’ from.

Ndcent – I like your monkey! Thanks for that response concerning Little Brothers. You are correct; the staff were concerned, descent people, as was Dan. They were part of the neighborhood. Hopefully the nice ladies from Liquid would like to be part of the neighborhood.

*Please keep the comments coming, every bit of advice is welcome. Also please invite anyone in the IV neighborhood east of Liquid to contact me if they want to be involved.

The Dispatch wrote A new lounge and dance club, Liquid, opened this past weekend at 1100 N. High St. in the Short North. Liquid also is offering an eclectic cafe-style menu at lunch, dinner and happy hour, chef Sherri Brunner said.

Brunner’s menu focuses on small plates and sandwiches, including hot ham and brie on croissant and a crab-cake po’ boy. One unusual item is a combo plate of pickled beets, eggs and onions, which she says celebrates her Gahanna upbringing.

The kitchen is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day, with dancing Friday and Saturday nights until 2:30 a.m. The lounge and dance club cater to lesbians.

I was there this past Friday and at 10pm they were showing pro basketball on their bar monitors. Not sure if they are catering to women or men who want to go there and watch women. If the women don’t get your attention, watch the tube!

    wink:

Many of the guys there didn’t know what to make of the place and frankly, nor did the women. I think they have a lot to prove given the fact they boast themselves as the “premiere” lesbian club in Columbus. I think they were a bit premature with their advertising. I can share much more but I’m going to give them another month and report back. Cheers!
