Lego Store Opening This Summer at Easton
Press Release:
LEGO to Open First Store in Central Ohio at Easton Town Center this Summer
Officials at The Georgetown Company and Steiner + Associates, co-developers of Easton Town Center, today announced that the LEGO Group, the makers of the classic brand of children’s building bricks, will open a store within Easton’s North District in late summer 2009. This will be the only LEGO store in Columbus, and one of two in Ohio.
“Just like many others, I played with LEGO toys as a kid. And it was great,” said Adam Flatto of The Georgetown Company. “Play is a vital part of what Easton is about everyday and we’re very excited to have our very own LEGO store opening this fall, joining many other kid-focused shops and boutiques here at Easton Town Center.”
The new nearly 2,000 square foot LEGO store will feature wall-to-wall product amidst three key design components. The “Pick-A-Brick Wall”, by far the hottest store feature, offers the option to purchase specific LEGO bricks and elements in a variety of colors and shapes in bulk. The “Living Room”, an interactive play area prominently positioned in the center of the store, gives consumers a chance to get “hands-on, minds-on” with LEGO products, view out of the box displays or just take a break from shopping. Finally, a “Brand Ribbon” runs the circumference of the store, featuring LEGO model displays, company history and fun facts to entertain guests.
The new LEGO store will be located at 4004 Gramercy Street, across from Pottery Barn Kids and The Children’s Place, near Gymboree, Build-A-Bear, Delia’s and Limited Too. It will occupy the southeast corner of Easton’s new, art deco style retail building currently under construction just outside the AMC 30 Theater. LEGO is the first tenant for that building.
“Easton Town Center captured our imagination when we visited, and from the looks of it, it grabs the attention of many central Ohio families as well,” said Skip Kodak, Vice President, Direct to Consumer Business. “At the LEGO Group, we believe good play enriches a child’s life, and this is a great environment for children and families to experience first hand the creativity and imagination that goes into LEGO building.”

You know what I miss?
Large quantity bins of various colors, shapes and sizes. The plain ones. It seems Lego sells mostly specialty sets to build specific toys. What fun is that? (OK it’s still fun) The best thing about Legos, for me, was thinking of something and trying to make an approximation of it with the Legos at hand. I used to have thousands of pieces to build cars, boats, planes, houses and everything else.
I guess they must make more money off the one-off specialty sets.

I agree with UncommonSense … where’s the imagination with the specialty sets?
And I don’t like Easton, so unfortunately will probably miss this store. Will have to live vicariously through all of you who go. :)

I’ll probably try to construct a couple of skyscrapers. Should be costly. How much does a single brick usually run?

OK, a 4 hour wait to get into a 3rd tier LEGO store???? I don’t think so. So disappointed in Columbus consumers - duped once again. Toys R Us actually carries just as many sets and apart from the odd limited set and the pick a brick - this store is a MAJOR FAIL. Super tiny too! One step into any of their other locations (Orlando) will shows you what it should have looked like.
