There’s a new restaurant opening in the little strip with Hungry Howies and Saturdays. It’s called Lavash Cafe and is mediterranean. A google search turned up that they have a phone number but I didn’t really see anything else. Anyone know anything about this? I’m always happy when something opens that I can walk to but we already have Alladin’s right there. I hope it’s a little different. I could really support a good cheap gyro within walking distance!
Maybe I’ll just call in the next few days.

I view that as a positive factor.
Double points for Mediterranean dining

Oh… so it’s run by the guy who ran the original Firdous on campus. That’s a big good thing.

Indeed. I recently became addicted to Alladins. I have a menu in my car and often just get carryout. Who knew vegetarian dishes could be so damn tasty?
Thanks for the heads up on the new place. I will test it out and report back.
I like Aladdin’s but their food always tastes like there is dirt and sand in it.

ORLY?
I see Mediterranean dinner in my future.
Nasir came in to Pattycake the other day to chat. He is awesome, and if you remember Firdous from back in the day… his food can’t be beat. We at p-cake can’t wait for Lavash to open right next door!!
On another note, in that same This Week section where Lavash is mentioned, the soon to be opened raw food restaurant Brain Food is discussed. They have been having fundraising dinners/events for the past month or so on the weekends, and their food is truly amazing.
I am really looking forward to having these two great new restaurants open in Clintonville!
I’m really looking forward to checking both of them out.
Uhh, didn’t Alladin’s become Giorgio’s? If I’m thinking of the same place next to Mama Mimi’s at Kelso and High? It opened a month or so ago and it’s pretty fancy — and somewhat expensive but tasty. I’m just glad to see something in that vacant spot next to Hungry Howies. I’ll walk across the street one night this week and check it out if they’re open yet.
Good to see a raw food concept in Columbus (I don’t think we have one yet, do we?) but I’d have to say that “Brain Food” is a very unappetizing name for a restaurant. ;)
I agree on both points. The name also can be perceived as being a bit haughty.
Giorgio opened next door to Aladdin’s.

Unless it’s a ZOMBIE RESTAURANT! In that case it would be *awesome*.
For a raw food restaurant, maybe not as much ;)
I imagine most dishes would include HuFu then? ;)
Nasir Latif, who created Firdous restaurant at N. High and 9th streets in 1988 and moved it into the North Market before selling three years ago, is back in the restaurant business with Lavash, a Mediterranean restaurant, 2985 N. High St. in Clintonville.
“I thought I could get the restaurant business out of my body, but I have a passion for it,” Latif said as he prepares to open on Oct. 1. The self-serve restaurant will be open “nine days a week — at least,” he said.
He intends to cook everything from scratch, including pita, fatayer and the crackerlike bread for which the restaurant is named, lavash.

I stopped by Lavash yesterday for lunch and let me tell you- good stuff! It’s nicely decorated, reasonably priced and the staff is really attentive. I played it safe on my first visit and ordered a chicken kabob sandwich for $5.95 and a pastry for $1.50. It was so good that I thought about going back for dinner. I told my sister about the place and she went for lunch too. She ordered the hummos, lentil soup and grape leaves and said all were fantastic. It’s nice to see another great spot in Clintonville. Welcome Lavash!
Maybe you should brush your teeth once in a while, hater. That food is fucking delicious. And always served in a very pleasing, non-gritty texture.
welcome, lavash!
we lunched there yesterday, just their second day of business. food was wonderful. plates were beautiful. service was spectacular. the kitchen staff was hired from the bradford culinary school, some real talent back there. welcome to the neighborhood, lavash!
I was just thinking about this place last night. My wife and I went to Pita Hut instead. Glad to know it’s open, I’m sure we’ll check out Lavash soon.

More than half the fat calories in a Mediterranean diet come from monounsaturated fats (mainly from olive oil). Monounsaturated fat doesn’t raise blood cholesterol levels the way saturated fat does.
The incidence of heart disease in Mediterranean countries is lower than in the United States. Death rates are lower, too. But this may not be entirely due to the diet. Lifestyle factors (such as more physical activity and extended social support systems) may also play a part.
