The local team behind the new Land Grant Brewing is accustomed to abrupt changes in plans, as they’ve already had to relocate from Grandview to Franklinton before ever even opening, in addition to changing their company’s name from its original: Oval Brewing. But now that construction is in full swing, they’re running full steam ahead toward their targeted September opening date.
“There’s a lot of hammering and sawing going on, and we poured an all-new concrete slab floor last week, which really transformed the space,” explains co-owner Walt Keys. “Now that the floors are finished, we can finally move the brewhouse and tanks in place — that could happen as early as the end of this week.”
Keys says that their partners at Compton Construction are scheduled to wrap up work in August for a September opening. The final months are giving the brewmasters at Land Grant some extra time to finalize the opening lineup.
“Since we last spoke we’ve been brewing a lot of small batches on our little pilot system,” says Keys. “We’re honing recipes and thinking about what we want to cook up for our first big batch on the new system.”
Land Grant’s 12,000 square foot facility at 424 West Town Street sits directly in between 400 West Rich and The Columbus Idea Foundry, bridging the gap between these new neighborhood anchors.
“We’ve been really overwhelmed with the positivity and spirit of the folks down here in Franklinton,” adds Keys. “Our immediate neighbors have been amazing, and it feels great to be a part of the entrepreneurial movement down here.”
