Lac Viet Opens New Bethel Center Location

By: Walker

This Valentine’s Day it will be Thang Nguyen, not Cupid, bringing us another great source for Vietnamese cuisine. Thang will open his second Columbus restaurant at 1506 Bethel Road in Bethel Center on what is also Vietnamese New Year.

Staff at the North Market location reminded me of their new location when I dined there yesterday, and it reminded me of the article in This Week by Gary Seman.

Tết Nguyên Đán (Happy New Year) to Thang and his wonderful staff.

  • Great news for them. Fantastic.

  • Good to see you posting again Patient Zero.

  • Jmak, aren’t you supposed to be working? Slacker.

  • LOL. Columbus Underground is my “recess” between sketches. :)

  • @ DavidF and jmak:  Thanks guys!

I’d like to visit their new location today after running some errands, but that 2010 snow is back again. I’d hate to think some snow will keep me away from tasty Vietnamese food!

  • Thanks for sharing this info, PZ. Always happy to see North Market merchants growing outside of the market. :D

  • Hmm another place to try!

Btw, the greeting for new year’s is “Chúc mừng năm má»›i!” “Tết Nguyên Đán” just means New Year.

  • Is this location also cash only like the North Market?

  • I ate there last Sunday and it has virtually the same menu as the stand at the North Market, but with slightly higher prices ($7-$9 for a bowl of noodles).  When I was there, they were only taking cash, but it was because their credit card machine wasn’t up and running.  Service was friendly.  I wonder if they plan to expand their menu at some point in the future…

  • Hi Guys!
I’m new, but I’ve been lurking on this website for a year. I went to Lac Viet yesterday with some co-workers and I didn’t think it was that good. I’ve been to the North Market location many times and consider myself a connoiseur when it comes to thai/laotion/vietnamese food. The new location was taking cash only as their machine was down and they didn’t even have bahn mi thit on the menu.  Ordered a different bahn mi, the bread was over toasted/ too crunchy and the pho beef was just so-so, it lacked anise.  For pho, I go to Bangkok Restuarant on Refugee road or Twin Sunlight on Wilson. Just my 2 cents :)

  • I was there with a friend a couple of weeks ago and we were both disappointed.  I had pho with chicken, my friend with beef… mine was blend, her’s was too salty and both lacked that deep, soul-reaching flavor one looks for in clear broth.  I will have to try those places you recommended, Tulula, thanks!  The owner was super nice so I felt bad that I didn’t like the food…

  • If you haven’t been there lately – GO for BREAKFAST! Yes I said BREAKFAST.  It’s called the Global Breakfast and it was a great, unique way to start my morning today!
