Just read on Twitter that La Tavola restaurant may have closed its doors last night. Anyone know if it is true? While I only ate there a couple of times, it will bum me out if another local restaurant shut its doors.
Update: Confirmed via phone call to the restaurant.

That would be too bad… I never made it..
Note: as of 2:30pm they’re not answering the phone…
La Tavola was so nice…the deck, the food, the service.
NOOOOO! That will seriously suck. Really enjoyed the food& atmosphere. Crappers. I do know that one of their sous chefs was laid off a couple months ago. I didn’t realize it was THAT bad though… Maybe they are just remodeling or something???
There is a scary amount of places closing throughout the Short North in addition to a few spots that were already empty and have been for a while now. I hope this doesn’t continue at its current pace and we can weather this downturn.
Called their number. Message saying “Closed for business”.
Aw, that’s grim. They put together an amazing dinner, in conjunction with Wayward Seed Farm, for the Slow Food group in the fall. We were really impressed with the talent and the scenery.
This is really bad news. I’m so sorry to hear this news.
Oh, that sucks! The Slow Food/Wayward Seed dinner there was so very excellent, and they had such a beautiful location. Really sorry to hear about this.
Say it isn’t so! :( The Slow Food dinner there was nothing short of magnificent. But in this current economic climate, it doesn’t surprise me. Even those of us who love eating out at restaurants and could do so easily before have to budget carefully these days.
Is it just me or are these restaurant closings really coming one after another lately?
I’m afraid the economy and the season, together, are awfully unforgiving for restaurants that already have a strike or two against them. In the case of La Tavola, the location was gorgeous and there was plenty of parking, but my sense was that a lot of people in central Columbus just weren’t all that willing to drive out there on a regular basis.
Very sad – we had followed them from their first tiny place in a Dublin/Muirfield strip mall to the River Rd location. What an original talent in the kitchen, and always a sincere, smooth front of the house. The more we traveled the more we appreciated them.
This is too bad. Columbus has enjoyed chef Rick Lopez from his days at Tapatio and we can only hope that he’ll be back in some form.
Rick if you’re reading this I hope you come back in the form of a pizzeria. You understood the relationship between good dough and a quality oven instead of just covering crap with more cheese.
