Kroger Purchases Location for New Whitehall Store
It’s most likely still several years before a grand opening, but Kroger has officially taken the first step toward relocating its Whitehall store on East Broad Street. Last week, the Ohio-based grocery chain purchased a building located across the street at 3662-3712 East Broad Street in the Town & Country Shopping Center.
The 78,000 square foot building formerly housed a Big Bear grocery store, but has sat empty since that chain went bankrupt and closed its remaining stores.
Kroger has not yet made any announcement on what the new store will look like, or when the relocation might occur.
“I can confirm that Kroger purchased the former Big Bear site on East Broad Street in Whitehall, but at this point, I don’t have a timeline to share,” stated Jennifer Jarrell, Media/Government Relations Manager with Kroger.
In Upper Arlington, Kroger purchased the former Macy’s site in 2015 with plans to build a new store. Lawsuits delayed the process though, and construction is slated to likely start on that project sometime in 2018.
