Kroger Providing Shuttle from Closed Northern Lights Location

Kroger has not backed down from plans to close its store at 3353 Cleveland Ave., but the company did recently announce that it will provide a free shuttle from that location to the closest remaining Kroger store, on Morse Road.

A press release states that the service, which will be provided by local startup Empowerbus, will run on a “continuous loop” from the Northern Lights shopping center to the Kroger store at 1745 Morse Rd.

Beginning on Thursday, February 1, buses will operate every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The move comes after the decision to close the location was met with concern from neighborhood and political leaders, who are worried about the impact that the closing of North Linden’s only full-service grocery store could have on the area.

A Save-A-Lot grocery store at 3434 Cleveland Ave. will remain, but it does not offer a pharmacy or financial services like check cashing.

The release notes that Kroger offers free pharmacy deliveries to customers within a 10-mile radius of the Morse Road location for “qualifying prescriptions.”
