If you enjoy the food at Katalina’s in Harrison West, but aren’t a fan of long lines and tight dining quarters, then your wish for a larger space may soon come true. Katalina’s owner Kathleen Day confirmed with Columbus Underground that she is hoping to soon add a second location in Columbus.
“I’ve actually been looking for quite awhile,” said Day. “Because my restaurant is so small, I can’t house everyone in the winter. Our customers are so supportive, but they get frustrated in the winter when they cant’ find seating — I’ve always wanted to grow.”
The Brewery District Commission analyzed a conceptual review submission for 718 South High Street during Thursday’s commission meeting, in which a developer is proposing the renovation of a former antique store into a mix of retail and residential units. Katalina’s signage was presented on a building as a part of that application package, although Day said that news for that site is premature, and no business deal has been fully finalized there.
Instead, Day said that she’s still reviewing multiple potential locations in German Village, as well as Clintonville and Olde Towne East. She said she’s also considered eventual expansion to areas including Westerville, Old Dublin, Worthington and Old Gahanna.
Regardless of where the new location lands, customers of the original 600 square foot Katalina’s can expect a similar experience.
“The addition of alcohol has always been on my radar, and we’ve always liked to explore new things,” she said. “We like to keep up with what our customers want.”
