So I received word from a reliable source that the owners of Junctionview Studios will be selling the warehouse full of artists studios to Nationwide Realty. Why should this pass as news? Well the Couchfire Collective who are the current tennants of Junctionview Studios have been setting the Columbus art scene on fire (no pun intented) with their Agora art exhibitions will not be able to renew their lease when Nationwide takes over the property in early 2008. This is unfortunate because The Couchfire Collective has played a significant role in giving exposure to Columbus’ underappreciated indie artscene. In addition to The Agora exhibitions showcasing performances, music, and art from Columbus artists, they have also spearheaded the campaign for Columbus to adopt the slogan as the “Indie Art Capital of The World”. Which is a pretty damn good slogan the city should adopt if you ask me. Not to mention The City won’t have to dole out $85,000 in consulting fees to accept it.

  • Thanks Ed.

We know what’s coming. And I assure you.. we won’t be down long.

  • Artists and artist studios do great things for growing vital neighborhoods.

    Hope to work with NRI.

  • Agreed.

We will be ready to partner and bring what we can to whatever business is willing to extend their hand to us.

    We have alot to offer.

  • my lease is up soon, and i’ve kicked around the idea of being in a space with everyone for a while now…

    just a thought.

so, assuming NRI doesn’t pan out, what are the space requirements?

  • We can talk tomorrow at lunch about this and other things.

  • Lunch talk good.

Moving into Daniels building = too small.

Yeah, I’d love to see the Junctionview concept merged with something similar to what was discussed with coworking space for artistic businesses. :D

  • i sincerely hope this is a good thing, and not just because i have a studio there, but because i have a community there.

  • I see this whole discussion becoming a development for the artists involved in the Collective, the people in the Studios, and the IAC movement.

These business partnerships will be one form of growth that helps propel this forward.

  • i wasn’t suggesting my current space for everyone. i was saying i’m open to moving into a bigger space with everyone if it helped secure another tennant. there’s certainly nothing magical about 13 east tulane.

sarcasm + internet + audience = total fuctard

  • We still love you. Fuctard and all.

  • You do have some pretty amazing neighbors though Fuctard.

Well we knew it was coming and while its not surprising, it is disappointing. But overall exciting to think that we can find a way to come together and make another strong community somewhere. I’ve had some ideas, I know a few others have been brainstorming on this, so we can make it work.

a space for many more great artists and many more awesome Agoras/events.

    Seriously good idea.

Lots of good energy brewing in Columbus. Always has been.

I especially love the spirit of collaboration and come one, come all mentality of the folks I’ve gotten to know over the last year or so.

Uncertainty and change are good fuel for building and creating.

EXXXACTLY. Many times that change will wake many up and focus on what needs to be done. Some run for the exits, others take control, and others help to move it along. That’s all it takes.

  • Certainly feels like an opportunity to me. Junctionview and Couchfire have become very established names with the community, so bigger and better certainly springs to mind ;)

    Well said and x2

  • Well this is the last thing I wanted to wake up and read today, but I am confident that there are enough motivated people in the studios with enough monthly money to make something real happen in the very near future if need be.
