Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams can now be enjoyed by anyone. After five years of development, the company is releasing their first dairy-free, vegan flavor: Dark Chocolate Truffle.

Jeni’s chief creative officer and founder, Jeni Britton Bauer, set a goal to make a new type of ice cream that would the have the same quality in texture, body and flavor. After many trial runs using various plant proteins and nut milks, Britton Bauer landed on coconut cream and fair trade cocoa to create the Dark Chocolate Truffle. Manipulating the coconut cream into a butterfat-like consistency provided a base for the ice cream that could carry all of the other flavors.

Described as mouth-filling, rich and creamy, the Dark Chocolate Truffle ice cream aims for its own unique taste among Jeni’s other flavors.

“We didn’t try to make something that would pass for a dairy version of ice cream,” said Britton Bauer in a press release. “Instead, we looked to make something new and different and wondrous all on its own. The resulting Dark Chocolate Truffle is so deeply, primally satisfying that since the first time I had it, I think about it and crave it just as much as dairy ice cream. This flavor is for anyone who wants a truly beautiful, memorable frozen dessert.”

Although not yet available online or for shipping, beginning Friday, November 10, the ice cream will be at all of Jeni’s 30 locations across the country.
