When Cup O Joe closed its location on The Cap in October, there was immediate speculation that the Hyde Park Restaurant Group might snatch up the large restaurant space for another one of their concepts. The business has slowly expanded its Short North presence over the years with the opening of Eleven next door to the original Hyde Park Steakhouse, and the more recently added Black Point across the street. So of course, their continued growth in the area might be expected.
“We’ve acquired the liquor license from Cup O Joe, and we have talked with The Cap’s property owners,” said Joe Saccone, co-owner of Hyde Park. “But in a nutshell, at this point we have not taken over that space, so there’s not a whole lot we can really say.”
Regardless of whether or not the Hyde Park Restaurant Group acquires the lease of 600 North High Street, the company is already committed to further developing their footprint in the area. The owners purchased half of the old Yankee Trader building just three blocks south, with long-term plans to renovate the three-story structure.
“We bought that building for a restaurant, but after Sushi Rock went out of business, it made sense for us to move forward with Black Point there, and put Yankee on hold,” explained Saccone. “We have no set schedule for that project, but we may be figuring out what to do with that building sometime in the first or second quarter of 2015.”
