Huntington Park named Ballpark of the Year

By: Walker

Baseballparks.com just announced the winner of their 10th annual “Ballpark of the Year” award, and the honor is going to Huntington Park. That’s right… Huntington Park is better than any other new major league ballpark. The new home of the Columbus Clippers was praised highly for the Downtown location, stadium design, and plethora of fan amenities.

The award will be presented in a ceremony prior to the Clippers’ home game Sunday, September 6th. A full review of the new stadium can be read here at BaseballParks.com.

  • Good stuff! I need to check out a game and confirm all the hype very soon.

  • An honor that is well deserved. It’s a great facility.

  • Yeah, it really is well-deserved. Such a great ballpark.

  • I read the article and it does a really good job of pointing out all of the great points at the stadium.  I went to my first game there a few weeks ago and was very impressed.
What makes this honor even better was that it was up against the two new New York stadiums.  Great honor for Columbus.

  • Believe the hype. I’ve been to ballparks around the country (Philly, Chicago, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Seattle, Toronto, Baltimore, the old ones in NY) and none hold a candle to Huntington.

  • The author is right about the Home Plate entrance. I have been to about a dozen clippers games this year and never even viewed this from the outside.  I will have to check it out next time I go.  The article is spot on for how nice the stadium is.

  • I think Ohio has a pretty good selection of baseball stadia.  I’ve been to every one except the new Frontier League park in Avon, and the only one that underwhelms me is the Reds’ ballpark.  Still a nice enough stadium, but it feels really plain compared to some of the other parks of a similar vintage.
Even old VA Memorial down in Chillicothe is a nice place to watch a game, just as long as you don’t mind wooden benches and “Cotton Eye Joe” at least once per night.

Yeah, I hadn’t really thought about that too much until I read that in the article. I’ve been that way a few times because we usually park on that side.

Hopefully though in another 10 years we’ll have an entire new neighborhood back there with thousands of new residents using that entrance. ;)

  • What a win! Congrats to everyone involved, including all the people who work there on a daily basis to make it a great experience.  Now if only we could get the players to starting some winning of their own.

  • Congrats to the Franklin County Commissioners for building a great park!

  • rigghht.  too bad for Franklinton.  but hey, we’ll get to enjoy a nice quiet and relaxing NASCAR track!  but hey, they’re just PWT down there so screw em right?

  • I understand your concern for the well being of your neighborhood, but seriously… Columbus just won this award. No need to turn something positive into a round of turf wars. ;)
