Hungry Soul Cafe is Closing Downtown

After just over three years of operation, the Hungry Soul Cafe will be closing their doors at 30 South Young Street following tomorrow’s brunch service. Owners George and Anita Keller took over former restaurant The Inn Between back in mid-2012, later changing the name and rebranding to focus on a mix of soul food and Hungarian-inspired comfort dishes.

“Unfortunately, the rumor this time is true,” confirmed Anita this afternoon. “Tomorrow is our last day, sadly.”

While the restaurant’s location in the heart of Downtown is very centralized in the city, the specific placement in the ground floor of a parking garage building, and being located just a block off busier streets like Broad and Fourth, have issued challenges with attracting new customers.

“We’re hoping for a return in a more visible location in the next few months,” said Anita. “Next chapter… stay tuned.”

Last year, The Kellers took over the former Rendezvous Cafe on the more prominent corner of Gay Street and Third Street, relaunching as Nosh Columbus — a convenience store slash cafe that serves breakfast, lunch, coffee and carryout.
