There’s something happening in my neighborhood in the old B Hamptons space. A huge banner hangs out front driving to the website HarrisonsOnThird.com.
It’s an interesting tactic–when you get to the site you sign up for updates and you can look through the gallery they’ve created during the remodeling. No surprise–it’s another bar–two bars it sounds like. With an outdoor patio along the street. The logo looks very pub-ish. Anyone know anything more?
I have to admit, I’m a little sad to see a bar go in…I’m hopeful it’s a great restaurant too and not another Park St pick-up scene. A nice neighborhood scene filled with the great people who live around here. Well, if it’s a great place to tie one on, at least I’ll have a short walk home!

wow…whole lotta guttin’ going on!
I once lived directly across the street from that place. Thanks be to God I don’t anymore! I can’t imagine it with a patio.
You really don’t have to worry about it becoming a “wretched hive of scum and villainy,” my friend; I’m pretty sure Harrison’s On Third is a Cameron Mitchell Restaurant.
And, yes, I did quote Ben Kenobi.
i hope they plan on getting some parking around there. it sucked.
i worked there and got parking tickets.
Well hearing it’s a CM place at least promises it won’t be a pub version of Spice Bar. :)
They’ve torn out walls to the street–I would love it to have the open window concept used at Marcella’s. Gives a much bigger city feel.

Ben Kenobi was a little prankster in High School.
Doorman: Let me see your identification.
Obi-Wan: [with a small wave of his hand] You don’t need to see our identification.
Doorman: We don’t need to see your identification.
Obi-Wan: We aren’t underage.
Doorman: You people aren’t underage.
Obi-Wan: We can go on in and have a drink.

Obi-Wan: Go on inside.
Doorman: Go on inside…go on inside.
Okay, so imagine that–a little googling and you find the answer.

Brad DeHays, Tim Hollingsworth and Jim Burden plan to open Harrison’s on Third in the former B. Hampton’s, 335 W. Third Ave., which closed last year.
“It’s a great location,” DeHays said. “We’re not trying to make it different, we’re just trying to clean it up. All of us used to go there.”
An August opening is planned. They are keeping the basic floor plan and sprucing up the joint, from new furniture to revamped restrooms. The plan is to keep the pool tables and jukebox, and add some high-definition TVs. The bill of fare will include pizzas, fish and chips, wings, sandwiches and such.
“It’s not going to be a plush, high-end establishment,” DeHays said. “It’s going to stay a neighborhood bar. That’s the goal. We just want to have a solid menu, good food and a clean environment for everyone to enjoy.”
A new look is in the offing for the exterior, DeHays said. The owners intend to brighten up the outside and add some windows.
“We want to make it look like a modern storefront down there,” he said. “We want to make it look inviting. We don’t want it to be a dark hole.”
He said he’s also trying to solve the parking issue there. The owners are trying to negotiate an arrangement with the owner of a nearby lot, but no deal has been signed, DeHays said.

Looks like these are all positive changes. I’ll walk down there and check it out when it opens.
Hoping it’s a nice place. HW is a really nice small neighborhood. I don’t get how parking is an issue. If you live nearby it’s easy to walk, bike, or (less feasible if you need a ride back). Parking isn’t the problem, peoples culture (or lack thereof) is.
what does that mean? lack of culture is related to parking?
so only people that live close to the bar should go there. got it.
all of those street close are permit only after 6 pm or something. i would call that a problem. (at least they used to be)
Don’t encourage him. ;)
sorry. i can’t help it :)
Radical. I’ve been walking past and noticing the work/demo, and I’m impressed (mostly by the new window space/s). I live ’round the corner, and I’d like to envision a happy medium of somewhere between the range of a neighborhood bar & a neighborhood bar. 3rd avenue is becoming a nice commercial corridor.
They’re very creative in their naming of the bar: Harrison’s on 3rd. I’d probably call it 3rd’s on Harrison. Even though there’s more frontage on Harrison.
Here’s the parcel link for the improvements/buiding:

And here’s the adjacent parking lot to the east:

Different owners, although they could be related and/or have an easement or parking agreement.

Hey, it could also be a pedestrian/bike-only on Friday and Saturday nights. Yes, yes, very good. I go to the coffeeshop down the street quite a bit even though I live in the SE side of Downtown. Not having a car doesn’t stop me. Now if frat boys are expected to make the bulk of the customer base, then yes, parking would be a bitch and I’ll be sure to cry a river for them.
Columbusite you need to take a look around Harrison West. Parking is an issue for most of the homes up and down Harrison as well as W. 3rd, which means they have a permt system. If you don’t have a permit you’re gonna get a ticket, towed, or both. Homeowners come before bar patrons in those areas – and rightly so. It has nothing to do with culture, frat boys, or ravings of a lunatic. :P
Edit: Also, sounds like they are cleaning the place up, unlike previous ownership. GREAT for the neighbors, now all the screaming drunk smokers will be outside again. So glad I moved. I was ready to start shooting a few times when drunks came up on my porch asking to use my bathroom at 2am, which was always the loudest hour.
if they keep $1 beer happy hour, i’ll be there.
If they keep $1 beer happy hour they’ll go out of business just like B Hampton’s.
Matthew–people seriously tried to use your restroom at 2AM? I’m surprised they didn’t just pee on your porch. :)
Yes, I said it. Harrison West is the coolest little neighborhood. Not so much when I moved in years ago, but definitely better by the year. I’m very happy to see something like this go in right around the corner. It will help balance the actual hive of s and v that is Zenos.
Did I mention you can walk to Late Night Eggs on 3rd?… oh yes.
This is why you’re not running a restaurant, though admittedly, I don’t like the thought of the need for that many cars so near a place that will make most of its money off alcohol sales.
You’d have to develop a very strong and loyal clientele to be able to survive just on people who live within walking distance.
