While we regularly post photo updates of the progress over at the new Columbus Museum of Art expansion in our Construction Roundup series, we rarely get a glimpse of the inside of the building. Today we were invited along on a hard hat construction tour of the large new wing of the museum as well as some of the renovated spaces in the existing building.
Once finished, the project will add 50,000 square feet of new space to the east of the museum site, and will feature 38,000 square feet of renovated space in the 1974 wing of the museum.
“We’ve also gained almost three times as much art storage space,” added Nannette Maciejunes, Executive Director at CMA. “One of our most important goals is to be able to increase the museum’s public value to this community.”
The exterior of the north end of the site is getting a major upgrade as well, with a new sculpture garden and a second floor event space with an overlooking terrace.
