Restaurant Roundup: Hangover Easy Reopening, Daily Growler Expansion Update & More

Columbus has so many new restaurants, expansions, menu updates and other changes that it’s sometimes hard to keep up with them all. That’s why our Restaurant Roundup series was designed to keep you informed with the latest and greatest updates. Here’s what’s new in the local dining scene:

    Copious

This Brewery District restaurant is changing with the seasons, adding a couple of new items to their end-of-summer and fall menu and bringing back some guest favorites. Their short rib mac and cheese is back, along with the new blackened catfish with brown rice and Tasso ham, and a “sauce étouffée.” They also added sautéed shrimp to the menu, which comes with buttermilk and sweet basil mashed potatoes and is topped with a roasted garlic white wine butter sauce and bacon. Copious is located at 520 South High Street, and their hours vary.

    CRUX

Termed an “underground, nomadic culinary collective” by its creators, CRUX will stop in Columbus for the third night of its four-night, four-city tour on September 15. It brings with it a menu generated by chef and CRUX leader Brandon Baltzley.

Local chefs Sangeeta Lakhani, The Table, and Avishar Barua from the soon-to-be Service Bar at Middle West Distillery collaborated with Baltzley and co-chef Laura Higgins-Baltzley along with Kyle Paton to create the one-night-only menu, each contributing their own dish.

Lakhani’s dish is a corn soup with chanterelles and pistachios; Barua’s dish brings together broccoli, beef and breast.

Apps and cocktails will be kept secret until doors open at the 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. seatings at The Table, located at 21 East 5th Avenue, #101). The night begins with cocktails and appetizers, followed by the five-course dinner, one course from each chef. Tickets are $85 per person.

    Panera

The Lane Avenue Panera on OSU’s campus is delivering to anyone within an eight minute drive as part of their new Panera 2.0 campaign. The chain, attempting to appeal to consumers by using more technology, established a delivery system accessible through their website or app and have been implementing kiosks for guests who want to enter their own in-store order rather than go to a cashier.

“This delivery service launched in Dayton in June and has resulted in tremendous growth in sales volume to the Dayton Panera cafés,” said the press release. “The business from delivery is 80 [percent] incremental, which means the service is reaching an entirely new audience for Panera.”

    Daily Growler

The Brewery District/German Village area will welcome the Daily Growler’s third location this fall, if construction stays on schedule. A press release said the new locale will retain elements from the Growler’s Upper Arlington and Powell locations, showcasing 50 beers on tap,

“The German Village and Brewery District location presents a great opportunity to bring our growler bar concept to an urban, central city location,” said owner John Blakely. “We’re looking forward to serving fast casual beer to a new part of Columbus.”

The new location will include a kitchen run by Big Mamma’s Burritos, based in Athens, Ohio. Big Mamma’s original menu will start everything off. After that, they’ll take feed back for revisions.

Construction is still underway as permits take longer than expected. A fall opening date is expected. Follow CU for updates.

    Hangover Easy

A favorite breakfast and brunch spot is about done transforming itself into an all-encompassing dining spot. With just days left of construction, owners Nick Pedro and Scott McCrary said the place will offer more breakfast options, with a coffee and baked goods bar sitting where the waiting area used to be and some new items being added to the menu.

For added space and options they put in an outside seating area with windows that open out onto it.

From Facebook posts it looks like they’re circling around a finish date with small details left to finalize. Stay tuned to CU for additional information.
