Hmmm…well, some of these photos aren’t even in Grandview, to be all technical about it. The Chinese restaurant (#7) is on 5th Ave, which isn’t Grandview.
My favorite photo is #11, the carry out across from Pierce Field on First Ave? Always went there after Little League games.
Photo #4 looks like the old Rainbow Cleaners…? I don’t think Johnny’s Grill (#12) is there any more either. And thought I saw the Gourmet Pet Food store (#13) go out of business too? Bummer.
#10 is the mural across from Penn Station. I think it’s a chyropractor.
Those are all I can ID quickly. But #5 is on the tip of my tongue, the giant barrel too. Grrr…I hate that. Good photos though :)

Unless that photo is really old, I don’t remember Boulevard Presbyterian Church looking like that photo.
Oh, and Heidi’s Homemade Dog Bakery is no longer on Grandview Ave, it moved down somewhere near G.Y. I think.
If we are informing everyone- Johnnies Glenn ave grill is still there and open, also there is no library in Marble Cliff.
I kind of guessed on #8 with Boulevard Presbyterian Church. I drove by it but it was really late so I couldn’t see all the details. I was thinking it was the back of the church that was on W 2nd Ave. I guess my new guess for #8 is what tooker22 had said – The house at the deadend of Roxbury.
I had a blast doing this and could not have gotten these without everyone’s guesses. It’s funny I know Grandview really really well since I drive through it practically everyday so I know where all the cops hide. Well, while I was going down Goodale by Northwest I was trying to pay attention to the buildings and forgot that Northwest in the right lane turns into a turning lane so I signal to continue on Goodale illegal and of course a cop is hiding there. He ends up pulling me over for a moving violation but let’s me off with a warning. “You were going to risk a $100 ticket for $25 worth of ice cream? That would of been some kind of story.” I then proceed to tell him about the scavenger hunt and show him my laptop to see if he recognized anything. He said he had no idea what any of these were and had never seen the boat before and was immediately intrigued. I followed michaelcoyote’s hint that it was on Williams and the cop took me there.
After that I was trying to figure out #8 and went to Marble Cliff to check out the churches over there. I went to Trinity Methodist Church on Cambridge and was checking out the building. I had parked in the parking lot and was trying to figure out where Roxbury was to check our Lady of Victory Church and the Meditation Sign. While I was in the parking lot this burnt out hippie named Al comes over to me thinking I was his buddy who had left 10 minutes earlier to peep at the girl that lives next door to him since we have the same car. He sees that I am not him and I ask him the best way to get to Roxbury from there and proceed to tell him about the Photo Hunt. I somehow get into a 4 hour conversation with him about UFOs, Big Foot, how he almost slept with Stevie Nick’s cousin but Don Henley swooped in and she slept with him instead, he gambled with Crosby and Nash, was friends with John Denver before he was famous, hung out with John Fogerty and Gregg Allman. He lived in Aspen and partied with the best of them. Apparently he was also supposed to be Jack Hanna’s photographer before he got famous but he decided not to go to Africa with him. He was a fantastic storyteller but I could not get out of the conversation for the life of me.
This all definitely would not of happened if I had stayed at home. Haha.
maybe someday i’ll be a famous photographer too! :)
Take a Siesta, For the WIN! Congratz…
BTW, welcome to the website and
I think 8 and 6 were the hardest….
tooker22 – Thank you! You were absolutely correct. It’s this place called Manor House where Roxbury ends near 3rd Ave. I drove by it today for confirmation. Thank you whoever’s idea this was, I had so much fun! Which neighborhood is next? I suggest Clintonville :)
