GCAC Presents: The Pizzuti Collection – An Insider’s View of Contemporary Art

Nestled between the leafy green space of Goodale Park and the bustle of the Short North is Pizzuti Collection, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit exhibition space, founded in 2011 and dedicated to presenting contemporary art from the collection of Ron and Ann Pizzuti. The Pizzuti’s purchased the former headquarters of the United Commercial Travelers Insurance Company, located at 632 N. Park Street, and graciously restored and transformed the 18,000 square foot space into beautiful, airy, light-filled galleries before gifting it to the Pizzuti Collection.

In our inaugural year, visitors from around the world saw groundbreaking contemporary art from Cuba as well as paintings and sculptures by modern masters like Frank Stella, Donald Judd, Louise Nevelson, and Gerhard Richter. We introduced audiences to emerging artists who are just now exploding onto the international scene. Our unique point of view is that of a private collector with 40 years of stories, interactions, friendships and passion for supporting artists and contemporary art. Our goal is to share that insider status with you. If you have yet to visit, we look forward to welcoming you to one of the coolest, smartest, and inspiring spaces in town.

Rebecca Ibel, reknown Columbus gallerist and art world maven, is Director/Curator of our small and mighty team. Along with groundbreaking exhibitions our staff has established a popular artist talk series, bringing international artists to Columbus for engaging dialogues with our members. We offer weekly tours and have led hundreds of school and university students (who always receive free admission to our galleries) through our galleries.

On September 6 we launch our new season with NOW-ISM: Abstraction Today – an unapologetically beautiful exhibition of twenty-first century painting, sculpture, video and furnishings representing the newest abstract work from today’s best artists.

Also beginning September 6th is our first film series Ori Gersht: Portraits. Three forceful video portraits by connects us with stunning individuals as they pass through moments of quiet contemplation within meditatively beautiful surroundings. The Columbus Museum of Art will host Ori Gersht: Still Life, a simultaneous show of Gersht’s photography and other works on loan from Pizzuti Collection. Community collaborations continue with the Decorative Arts Center of Ohio in Lancaster, which will open an exhibition of the Pizzuti Collection’s work by the Brazilian designers Fernando and Humberto Campana this October. The exhibition celebrates the Campana Brothers’ innovative and outlandish furnishings and will open at Pizzuti Collection in February.

Our season promises to be exciting with innovative exhibitions, new events, and creative opportunities for our members to experience the art and artists in our collection. Keep up to date at pizzuticollection.org, follow us on Facebook, Twitter (@PizzutiArt), Instagram (@pizzuticollection), and our YouTube channel.
