Although I’m not a scooter owner, I was thrilled to read that the Mayor’s Office and City Council are taking quick action on implementing new legal parking spaces for scooters in and around downtown. The number of scooters on the roads are multiplying quickly, and our local leadership should be applauded for taking a speedy and innovative approach to providing easy parking access for alternative transportation.

What I was not thrilled to read was the unnecessary jab at Mayor Michael Coleman for driving a car to the news conference to announce the new scooter parking measure. Our leaders do not always have to have a personal stake in the legislation that they enact, nor should we always expect them to. The cheap shot had me doing a quick double-take to make sure I was reading The Dispatch and not The Other Paper. Please stick to the facts and leave the tasteless jokes for others to make.
