Gateway Film Center Adds 4K High-Resolution Projector

The Gateway Film Center is making the jump to high definition digital display with the addition of a new 4K projector system this month. The theater will debut the new system with 2001 cult classic Donnie Darko, which has been restored in 4K for a new 2017 theatrical re-release.

“We’re looking every day to give Columbus new experiences, new ways of seeing movies, and ways to present movies as their creators intended,” said GFC President and Programmer Chris Hamel. “By adding 4K, we can bring the city a meaningful premiere, and also open a new series of presentations we didn’t have before.”

The re-release of Donnie Darko ties into the much larger “Cult 101” film series at the Gateway this year, which is airing the center’s top 101 independent and cult movies of all time. Other upcoming films in that series includes:

    • Mar 1-4 – PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE (1974)
    • Mar 5-9 – PEE WEE’S BIG ADVENTURE (1985) (35mm)
    • Mar 10-13 – THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH (1976) 4k restoration (played in 2k)
    • Mar 14-16 – ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK (1981)
    • Mar 17-19 – THE BOONDOCK SAINTS (1999)
    • Mar 20- 23 – AKIRA (1988)
    • Mar 24-26 – THE WICKER MAN (1973)
    • Mar 27-31 – THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984)
