I’m surprised no one has posted about this. Fuddruckers closed all the Columbus stores.

Burger chain Fuddruckers suddenly closed its four Columbus-area restaurants this week, leaving the central Ohio market for the second time in nearly two decades.
The company also closed the two other Ohio restaurants it owns. The only Fuddruckers remaining in the state are franchise stores in Beavercreek and Miamisburg.
A spokeswoman at the Austin, Texas, headquarters for the restaurant chain confirmed the closings yesterday but declined to comment further.
Fuddruckers had restaurants at Crosswoods, Mill Run, 5271 E. Main St. and 3586 W. Dublin-Granville Rd. A franchised location on Cleveland Avenue near I-270 closed in 2001.

I’m not bummed about it. :)
It was already mentioned/discussed somewhat, but only as a slight threadjack in the Burger Hunt thread.
As I mentioned there, I’m VERY bummed about this, as Fuddruckers was possibly my favorite burger in the area. I’d been waiting for a place like it to open since Flakey Jake’s on 161 (which was the original inhabitant of the building now known as “South Beach”) closed YEARS ago. The burger toppings bar, nacho cheese sauce, fresh baked flaky buns…
Ah well… hopefully they’ll reopen sooner or later, or something else similar will come along to fill the gap. In the meantime, there are still quite a few other solid options in town, even if they aren’t as much to my personal tastes.
It was mentioned briefly here about halfway down. I was thinking about making an announcement for it’s own topic, but wasn’t sure if enough people really cared about the place.
Personally, I had never been to one, and now I guess I never will.
I preferred the chicken sandwiches here more then the burgers.
Unfortunately this clip cuts off before it shows the final version of the restaurant, but you can probably guess for yourself…
hah
Where did that come from? (originally… I don’t mean “YouTube”)
It’s from the movie Idiocracy which is the very definition of “great concept, terrible execution”. It’s borderline a live-action version of the Futurama story, except with only a few laughs and the rest is nearly unwatchable.
This is bizarre! I’ve been to the Crosswoods one a few times, and it always seemed busy. We even found people lined up outside the door one Sunday morning before they opened. They certainly weren’t the best burgers in town, but they also weren’t the worst.
Since they pulled out of the area entirely, it seems like it’s more a matter of problems at the corporate level, rather than individual restaurants under performing.
I’m assuming the Columbus-area locations weren’t their BEST locations, but I agree, the Crosswoods place especially always looked to be doing fairly well when I’ve been there.
Very silly movie. Read a couple of rave reviews of it, and from the description it did sound funny, so I rented it a few months ago, but like you said something just went wrong in the execution.
I thought it was pretty good…could have been better though.
If you watch that one 10 minute clip of that movie on youtube.com you can pretty much skip renting the movie as you’ve seen the best parts.
Migg’s on Neil by OSU is better and homegrown. Empty buildings are bad for an urban setting but, that notwithstanding, no big loss.
Wendy’s is homegrown too, right? ;)
And there’s plenty of those around town.
speaking of empty buildings, miggs has been boarded up for two months now :( I agree, it was a nice little joint.
Bummer!!!!!!!!!!! I loved that place. Shame on me for not patronizing it more.
they had 50 cents drafts! granted they were in like 8 ounce mugs, but still 50 cents!
I don’t think it closed down because it didn’t do enough business. it seemed like half of the hospital staff was there drinking after work on most days. I know the old guy who owned it forever died not too long ago. I think they just ran out of people in the family interested in running it.
Still, so sad. I work at CAS and my wife’s a prof at OSU. We used to sneak in our dirty culinary pleasures there once in a while. We’ll miss it.
