This month’s installment of “Where We Live” in the Dispatch focuses on the Franklin Park neighborhood; a sub-neighborhood of Olde Towne East. As the name implies, the neighborhood surrounds Franklin Park, a 100-acre oasis in the heart of the Near East Side, and home of the Franklin Park Conservatory.

Similar to Goodale Park and Schiller Park, Franklin Park is surrounded with large historic homes, with a handful that would qualify as full-blown mansions. The neighborhood isn’t without challenges — many homes are in a state of disrepair and commercial businesses are somewhat scarce to serve the population, but proximity to other neighborhoods and solid housing stock keeps this area in high demand.

Franklin Park itself is an undervalued gem of a park. The housing stock that sits on the park is, almost to the home, gorgeous–and oddly affordable.  It’s not Buttles Ave, as you mentioned there isn’t much to walk to in the way of businesses, but some day when Columbus realizes what a truly magnificent park this is, these homes will sell for considerably more than they do today.
