Columbus will be losing four Family Dollar locations this summer. Parent company Dollar Express, which owns 323 Family Dollar stores nationwide, is selling all of the locations to Dollar General, according to the Charlotte Observer.
By the end of June four Central Ohio Family Dollar stores will close, including the Whitehall location at 3866 E. Broad St., the Great Western Shopping Center location at 128 N. Wilson Rd., the Short North location at 1101 N. High St., and the location at 901 S. James Rd.
The closures are a result of the sale to Dollar General. The Family Dollar stores were bought two years ago by a private equity firm Sycamore Partners. Though they won’t disclose why, Sycamore Partners originally planned to make the stores into Dollar Expresses, but they’ll be sold to Dollar General instead, according to Supermarket News.
The sale will cause the loss of 181 jobs statewide and 42 jobs in Central Ohio.
