Hello CU

As you may have seen if you drove on Third or Main downtown today, there was a fairly serious car crash at our intersection this morning.

Fortunately as far as I know, no one seems to be hurt. Unfortunately the same can not be said for our store, the impact did a number on our building.

As a result we will be closed until we get the building safe to occupy once more. At this point we are still evaluating what needs to be done to accomplish that, so we are not yet quite sure how long it will take.

We apologize for the inconvenience and hopefully we'll be back open for business soon.

ZHC, I'm so sorry to hear this news. Please keep us posted on your re-opening so we can be sure to send shoppers your way. Glad everyone is ok, you guys are a staple to so many of us downtown.

Sorry to hear it. Really wished traffic through here was two-way and calmer, as I know this isn't the first time Zettler has been crashed into. :(

Thanks Liz, its' been really great to have you guys in the neighborhood! What you guys have done in the Old Queen Bee spot is nothing short of amazing.

BTW We went and had some Dirty Frank's to drown our sorrows after surveying the damage, securing the site and getting repairs lined up yesterday.

It was the one bright spot in an otherwise pretty awful day.

You and me both Walker. Ever since Main went one way to accommodate the City Center garage, accidents seemed to have gone way up at our corner. For whatever reason people can not seem to figure out how to drive on one ways in a reasonable manner.

Dunno why, but the last 5 years in particular it's gotten to be a regular occurrence.

It would be better for everybody if people just slowed down a little. I don't have the official accident report in front of me, but this was basically caused by someone trying trying to beat a red light if my understanding is correct.

Ever since Main went one way to accommodate the City Center garage, accidents seemed to have gone way up at our corner. For whatever reason people can not seem to figure out how to drive on one ways in a reasonable manner.

I do not get why people have such a hard time with one way roads and turning. I know that the Central Ohio Aging on 4th and Long has had their poor building smashed multiple times in the past few years I guess it’s good they have that column out front or their front office would eat it. Sorry to hear about your building :(

I don't think we can put all the driver stupidity on one-way streets though. I have seen the old MRDD building at Grant and Broad hit multiple times too, right on the corner. I know I wouldn't have wanted my cubicle to be right here.

I am sorry about your mis-fortune though.

I imagine it has to do more with the high-speed nature of the Third & Main rush hour speedways. The onewayness enables the high speed, and converting back to two way is likely to be a way to resolve the issue and slow things back down. Cars would be less likely to careen diagonally at Zettler if they were going slower than 45 miles per hour upon t-bone impact.

Further, with Third being one-way south and Main being one-way east, it means that the building at the south-east corner is the one that will always be the bullseye in a t-bone accident at this intersection because of the direction of travel. If these were both two-way streets, t-bone accidents would have only a 25% chance of heading toward Zettler, as they could be happening from any direction.

If the city has no plans to start converting streets to two way then they should do Zettlers, COAA, etc the favor of putting out those large cement planters or rooted polls on the sidewalks to prevent a business or person from being hurt.

Yea I know they do I just hope its implemented sooner rather than later. Do you know if they are waiting until the split is finished near there to start the conversion?

I think so too.
Heck out front of the USDC they have giant ugly cement blocks or something. I do not know what they are there just huge and fug. The planters don’t even have to be huge as long as they deter cars from smashing into the sidewalks.

I think I recall those being put in after 9/11 to prevent bombs being driven into the building. The Huntington building added their planters at the same time as well.

Think a sign will stop anything? I use 670 daily and despite the well marked speed changes and multiple speed traps weekly drivers are still flying through the construction at 70+ while some of us attempt to follow the signs.
