So. We're trying to select a date for our (Hills Market's) Yuengling Event. While kegs will be released on October 3rd, it takes a little longer for retailers to get bottles. (We expect ours on the 7th.) And it's pretty competitive out there; everyone wants the stuff. With a competitive market (think Great Lakes Christmas Ale) a retailer may not get as much as they want to order. So the paradox is this: schedule early and ***hope*** we get what we've asked for, or wait a week or so, until we know for sure that we'll have it.
And that, my friends, is a little insight into the world of grocery store marketing.

The distributor was probably chosen b/c they were determined that they had the best and most relationships with the retailers that this brand wanted to be associated with. Local is great, but only if it makes business sense, and let's face it, it is all about the money when it comes to opening up in a new market. It allows the brand many more opportunities.

Budweiser may also have been chosen because Yuengling is almost as awful as Budweiser's family of beers.
I grew up right near the Pennsylvania border & am long familiar with people singing its praises, just like Iron City & IC Light.
Crap beer. All of it.

Yuengling will be distributed via Columbus Distributing, the same company that yes, handles Budweiser.
We've been getting requests for Yuengling regularly for the ten years we've been in business, we're excited to carry it. I'm especially interested in how Yuengling will affect PBR sales.

Columbus Distributing represents some pretty good beers. Their promotional material and sales staff isn't bad, either. Next stop, Yuengling is owned by the mideast version (Goose Island etc.) of
