Duo outlines gaming resort plans for jilted Youngstown

Backers of a failed 2008 push to build a casino in Wilmington are looking to enter OhioÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s gambling fray by way of a city with its own outspoken feelings on the casino plan.

The Mahoning Valley Development Group, headed by northeast Ohio business partners Rick Lertzman and Bradford Pressman, said Monday that the duo will disclose plans Tuesday to build a $300 million horse racing track and resort in Youngstown. While the prospect of video slot machines at Ohio tracks remains unsettled, Lertzman and Pressman say the Mahoning Valley Downs and Resort will be a track and casino.

Beulah Park racetrack moving?

Beulah Park in Grove City might be about to move, according to a rumor being repeated by a group trying to bring a horse-racing track to the Youngstown area.

Penn National Gaming Inc., which owns Beulah Park, said it will not comment on rumors.

Penn National might move Beulah Park out of central Ohio

Penn National Gaming Inc. is looking into the possibility that its planned Columbus casino may take business away from the company's Beulah Park horse-racing track in Grove City. That could lead Penn to move the track out of the region.

Horse racing just isn't hip anymore. I would much rather bet at the dogtrack. Where is Wheeling when you need it? Shucks outta state dollars, when is the next referendum....

Beulah Park would close and its racing license would be moved to Dayton under a plan Penn National Gaming plans to disclose to Ohio regulators Thursday morning.

The move would hinge on approval by the Ohio Racing Commission and the approval of long-delayed proposal to allow video slots at racetracks, a person familiar with the plan told The Dispatch.

Opposition Arises to Penn National Proposal

It isn't often that television, radio and print reporters from all across Ohio converge on an Ohio State Racing Commission meeting.

Then again, it isn't often that a national entertainment company proposes to pump hundreds of millions of dollars into the state in an effort to relocate two of its existing racetracks, one of which would move to the Mahoning Valley.

Gov. Kasich on Ohio's money games

Slot machines, called video lottery terminals or VLTs for short, are likely to come to horse tracks over the next three years, Kasich said.

Of importance to the Mahoning Valley, Penn National Gaming Inc. wants to relocate its horse-racing gaming license from Raceway Park, a harness racetrack in Toledo, to a $200 million facility to be built in Austintown at the vacant 186-acre enterpointe business park. Penn also wants to move its gaming license from Beulah Park in Grove City, near Columbus, to the Dayton area.

Amendment to allow 5th casino in state aiming for fall ballot

Developers in northeastern Ohio plan to ask voters to approve a fifth full-scale casino in the state. The Mahoning Valley Development Group, which previously announced a plan to build a racetrack-slots facility in the Youngstown area, now wants to put a $450million Las Vegas-style casino and resort there.

Hard Rock, Northfield Park unveil racino plans

NORTHFIELD, Ohio -- Hard Rock International's star power could help turn the Northfield Park harness racing track into a Midwest tourist destination with slot machines and other attractions, representatives of the new joint venture said Wednesday. Hard Rock Chairman Jim Allen and Northfield Park owner Brock Milstein held a news conference at the Summit County track to unveil plans for a $275 million development announced earlier this month.

Penn National ponies up $4.6M for Valley site

Penn National Gaming Inc. has paid more than $4.6 million for the Austintown Township property where it plans to build a thoroughbred racetrack. Bob Tenenbaum, spokesman for Penn National, confirmed that the purchase of the 186-acre property at Center Pointe Business Park was finalized April 20. Tenenbaum said Penn National has had an option on the property since early 2011 when it announced an intent to relocate Raceway Park from Toledo to Austintown.
