I know someone who's looking to buy a used under-the-counter commercial ice machine for use in a restaurant. I figured that there are enough people here in the hospitality industry that some people might at least have tips or stories to share about how they've gone about finding decent-quality secondhand equipment in the past, or maybe even know someone reputable who has something like that for sale.

I was at the Wasserstrom outlet on Friday. They have about 20+ used ones right now. It is located just past vets memorial on broad. Right hand side if you are going from downtown.

If it is at all possible, I recommend buying that particular piece of equipment new. I buy most equipment used but have learned the hard way that it ends up being cheaper to just buy an ice machine new from the start. I can tell some horror stories but I would start to cry. Do look around the motor inside the bin to make sure you don't see any black spots (crusted mold). If they didn't clean out the bin area with any regularity then you know they weren't keeping up with regular service and cleaning either.

Oh and for new and used, I highly recommend Restaurant Equippers on West Broad. Great service, great warranties, great people, I've been a happy customer for a decade.
