Yes. Absolutely. I'd go at least once a month.

Yes, if it was done right. And by that I mean, a good bar, and ideally good food.
And some kind of consistency in programming. If people knew they could always turn up on a Friday or Saturday night and see great local comedy, with good drinks in a nice, comfortable downtown venue, I think people would go.
Ideally it would be someplace near lots of other entertainment options, so it's easy for people to just pop in. Gay St, Short North, Arena District, Park St. Somewhere where you don't necessarily have to make a special trip just to see the comedy show, but could pop in between bars or restaurants.
That way, they could leverage casual, spur-of-the-moment attendees as well as people buying tickets in advance.

Only if there was lots of jokes about bodily functions and the buckeyes.

Much more likely than utilizing one at Easton.

I would go to the funnybone more if it wasn't in a mall. Downtown would be a bonus.

Yes, but it would need a stage, a good microphone, and beer specials. Tired of being boned by the Bone. There are plenty of good comics in this town, like Chris Coen, Anthony O'Connell, etc. We need more than Surly Girl or Dirty Franks.

Downtown near Gay St or the SN would be great. As others are saying it would be good to be part of a scene (a stop for part of an evening) and not a destination in and of itself.

Yes. Brewery District please!

I'd Say put it on Gay St. It'll add more excitement to the street, and bring more people to the center of downtown.

my first thoughts would be to get a comedy night or room in Shadowbox set up.

What about that all glass building on High Street that's for lease? It would be small and very visible .... or how many spots are left in the Lazarus building facing High Street?

I think it would be better to keep it seperate from Shadowbox. Gay St. seems like a good choice. I wonder how much it would cost to operate one?

Sharing space with one of the local theater companies (some of them may have "black box" rehearsal space that could convert into performance area) might be a great idea until a full comedy club could be established. This would only work with a theater group with more than one stage area or else comedy would constantly be pushed to the middle of the week, and that's not always ideal for a large, relaxed crowd.

I know the times we have comedy nights at MadLab, they are always standing room only.

I think having a comedy club closer to downtown or the Short North would be optimal. However, in the meantime, there are still great venues that are doing great work to support some truly funny comics that come out. Most of the shows are center of the city based, are fun, are cheap (tix and drinks), and happen throughout the week and on weekends.
Check ColumbusisFunny.com if you are ever interested in any of the comedic happenings in the city. It is updated a week before the end of each month with the upcoming month's shows (along with sporadic updates when necessary and show listings outside of the upcoming month if they are booked/reoccuring), lists all the open mics (with start times for audience and sign up times and contacts for performers), and general comic info along with links to their websites/fan pages/etc. It is also updated frequently with posts news about the scene, big events, and info (like this article or things like Kafe Kerouac's Thursday Comedy line-up which is mentioned in the article).
CiF also has a Twitter, which is located in widget form on the sidebar of the website (@1_Line_Columbus), which can keep you updated on upcoming shows if you have a twitter account and want to follow us.
The support for an second club (and just comedy in general) is definitely super cool to see in this thread though.

This is something that I have wanted to start up for awhile now. If there is genuine intrest I would be more than willing to start making a buisness plan and looking a rental space, getting permits etc...
Anyone know of a good avaliable space right now or starting January 1? I would think that 1,000-1,500sq/ft would be plenty to start off with.

I think a downtown comedy club is a great idea. It would be nice to have a go to place for comedy in an entertainment district like Gay St. or in the Brewery District. I hope this happens, I'm sure I'd be a regular.
