In group C with England, Slovenia and Algeria. Looks like Team USA should be able to make it out to the 2nd round. If they don't, they got some explaining to do. First match is vs England June 12th.

It's a fair match up. Saturday, June 12th is going to be a huge day for soccer in this country.

Thanks for starting a post! I had the day off so I have been GEEKED about World Cup since noon. I think we got a VERY good group - as in manageable - and cannot WAIT to watch the England game.
My other teams, Italy and Serbia, went either way. Italy looks to be in an equally manageable group (ok, it's pretty easy looking), while Serbia (and I know all the Brasil groupies will be allllll over me for this) is in my opinion in a group of death. They have Germany (who ALWAYS plays tough), Australia (who has been bringing it in big tourneys) and Ghana, who could be tough on familiar soil with their continent's pride spilling over into all nations.
But cannot wait for USA-ENG. Already have an unofficial match day shirt ready to go:

looks like the world is saying brasil's group (brasil, portugal, ivory coast and n korea) is the group of death. i disagree. portugal has proven streaky at best (which ronaldo will show up?) and brasil ALWAYS shows up or finds a way to squeak by. ivory coast can be tough, but it'll end up a dogfight between them and portugal. so what?
USA is seen as having the third easiest group, with Italy and Spain being judged to having a cakewalk in their respective groups.
But seriously, anything can happen in this tourney. Who will be the Korea of 2002 or the Turkey of 2006?

Charlie Davies on remarkable path to recovery
The strongest reminders of how fortunate Davies is come from Davies himself as he pushes through what is shaping up to be a miraculous recovery from that laundry list of major injuries. Less than four months after the crash that threatened to end his promising career, Davies is already jogging at a good rate and working on agility drills that would have seemed impossible just weeks earlier, when simply getting out of a wheelchair was an exhausting exercise.
What does this progress mean, exactly? It means that, barring any setbacks, Davies could be back on the field with club team FC Sochaux by April, meaning his chances of playing for the United States in June's World Cup should no longer be seen as a shattered dream.
"Charlie is pretty much light years ahead of where anybody would tell you he should be," said Jim Hashimoto, the former U.S. national team trainer who is overseeing Davies rehabilitation. "When everybody heard about the accident, including myself, it was like, 'OK, this is going to be a long one' -- and it's still going to be a long one, but to see his progress is pretty amazing."
Just how amazing? The multiple broken bones in his leg, face and elbow have healed. So has a torn posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, and he has recovered from bladder surgery, which left a foot-long scar on his stomach. He has regained the 15 pounds he lost after enduring six surgeries following the crash, and is days away from undergoing his final surgery associated with the accident, a procedure to remove a bone, plate and screws from his left elbow. After a week to recover from that surgery, Davies expects to be back training with Sochaux by the end of February.

I can't wait to watch England smoke the US :)

I hope they're feeding Clint Dempsey whatever they're feeding Charlie Davies.
@vestanpance...I like the reverse sports kharma thinking that England is going to blow the US out of the water. It only guarantees some Wayne Rooney/David Beckham/John Terry/Ashley Cole on field hair pulling spat where they all get red carded in the 3rd minute.
It could be our only hope.

ESPN to Broadcast All 2010 World Cup Games On ESPN Radio
ESPN will broadcast all 2010 World Cup games this summer live on ESPN Radio in addition to its coverage on television, broadband and mobile phones.
This is great news since I know I won't be able to take off everyday of the world cup, but now I know I can listen at work thanks to the ESPN Radio iPhone app.Tommy Smyth has been named as the lead analyst for ESPN Radio and will probably do all of the games as well as being in the stadium to broadcast the World Cup Final live. All of the games are going to be available on radio nationwide via your local ESPN Radio affiliate. To find your local ESPN Radio affiliate, visit the ESPN Radio station locator.
ESPN Radio has exclusive English rights to all of the 2010 World Cup games in the United States. For those soccer fans who are working or who don’t have access to a TV set for all of the games, the broadcasts of the games on radio is a perfect remedy.

John Terry and Wayne Bridge sink England's World Cup chances
@vestanpance, the team needs you for left back. With Ashley Cole hobbled by Landon Donovan I hear Fabian Capello is combing the kingdom for a new one.

Can we make this thread the official 2010 World Cup thread instead of just for our grouping? Just a thought.
Anyway .... I just took off 18 days of work to watch the games. I get excited everytime I read a new article about how soccer fever is starting to catch. God I hope the Crew have a good year cause I could really see attendance go way up if so.

Tough loss for the Crew against Toluca. But MLS season is less than 2 weeks away! Go Crew!

He may end up being more effective as a kind of football martyr for the English side and supporters:
