Press Release:
Wonderland Presents “Floatâ€Â
Wonderland Columbus begins a series of informational and fundraising programs with Float, a one-of-a-kind event designed to give the wishes of the local creative community and its supporters shape and strength in numbers. Float takes place Friday, February 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Franklin Park Conservatory, 1777 E. Broad Street.
Inspired by Chinese New Year traditions of festivals that fill the skies with paper lanterns, Float invites guests to join Wonderland staff, board and volunteers in putting their wishes for the future in writing. These slips of paper will be attached to helium-filled latex balloons lit by LED lights, which will be launched en masse from the conservatory grounds just after sunset.
The balloon launch will be accompanied by a reception with progress updates on the Wonderland project and networking opportunities for local creatives, as well as a live set by the band Survivalist, hors dʼoeuvres, a cash bar and a chance to purchase items from a newly expanded selection of Wonderland merchandise.
Admission is free; a minimum donation of $5 is requested for balloons, with proceeds to benefit Wonderland Columbus. Float is presented with generous support from Franklin Park Conservatory.
The event launches a monthly calendar of “Wonderland Presents†programs to engage and showcase the diverse talents within the city. Itʼs followed March 26 by the Wonderland Science Fair at COSI and a Show and Tell dinner debuting future Wonderland tenants on April 28. Programming updates will be shared at http://www.wonderlandcolumbus.com , and through Wonderlandʼs Facebook and Twitter pages.
Environmental note: Wonderland staff has conducted research and consulted with manufacturers to ensure that the materials used for the balloon launch have minimal impact on the environment.
