Safelite estimated $201, which is pretty good, and I'm waiting to hear back from Integrity Autoglass.

I had the same thing happen with my truck on the corner of 4th and 1st. Busted out a $172 window to get a $50 stereo that was broken anyways (and I DID take satisfaction in THAT at least :).

they certainly try...I had to replace the entire dash when not-very-good-at-their-job thieves attempted to get the factory CD/radio out of my car.

Yeah - but you're assuming the window-breakers/thiefs are rational and/or sober to begin with.

As I basically said before, someone tried to steal my 10-year-old mini-van with 125K miles. (And sometimes I think it would have been a blessing in disguise).

My jeep on Park St. gets broken into about every 2-3 months. I never lock the doors. I have plastic windows and I don't want them slashed. Nobody has ever attempted to get my indash CD player out. Yea, some papers and napkins get thrown around alot, nothing I can't clean up in 2 seconds. That's not the point. It just pisses me off that some dirty ass mofo was in my car, invading a private space. Man I wish I could catch someone in the act. It seems like incidents such as this have amplified over the past couple of years down here, am I wrong? Just another reason for more cameras and some sort of security patrol. I know they can't be everywhere, but it's better than nothing.

well, if they really want to steal your car, locking your doors won't stop them. of course, it helps to drive the crappiest vehicle you can afford.

Point. Someone tried to steal my car once and wasn't successful, I assumed maybe because the battery is in the trunk.

I woke up one sunday about a year ago to find the roof and hood of my car completely trampled and the windshield smashed. Drunk people do really stupid shit.

I used Safelite, about 200 for the windshield. You could also go to a junk yard with someone semi handy with tools, but a window and replace it for about 15$

Too bad you've already spent you hard-earned cash. If you had the time (which you may not have had), you could have gone to Pick-And-Pull and done it yourself. If a junk yard pulls one for you, they tend to run $50-$80, then you install it yourself or find someone to do it. My mechanic installed it for free because we have a great relationship. Otherwise, he would have charged me $25 or so.

At the end of the day, maybe the corporate installation was the best thing for you. Should it happen again, know that you have a few option$ if you have the time.

Yeah, that would be a great way to save money. Unfortunately, I don't know a mechanic or where Pick and Pull is. I also need my car tomorrow. I don't really have the local know-how, but that does sound like the best way to go. Thanks all the same!

I will say that Safelite did a great job vaccuuming all the glass and cleaning the car up. After they left, there was no trace that it ever happened. I called them at 1:00-ish and they came at 3:00. For the price, great service.

Probably too late, but if you have comprehensive coverage, check your car insurance for a glass deductible buy down. Some include it at no cost, others have it optional. Generally either a complete waive or a $50 deductible. Since it's a comp claim, it shouldn't affect your rates.
Otherwise call Safelite and see if your insurer uses them and if you can get their price. I did that on a windshield that was out of pocket.

Update: 6 months later, we come home from CU Meetup, watch The Office and 30 Rock, and go back outside to find our car window busted out. Nothing but CDs taken. This was our other car.

And we're moving. In the rain.

FYI -- Safelite gives a discount for repeat customers. Wish that weren't me.
