Driver's side, Saturn Ion. Nothing stolen (not even the GPS stupidly left in the glove box.) Can anyone recommend a place to get it replaced?
Or, if this has happened to you, how much did it cost?
What an excellent way to start the morning.

Twice I've used "Integrity Auto Glass"...it's a mobile service that'll come to you. The first "t" in "Integrity" on the van is a jesus cross, which I think he means to express he won't screw ya or something.
I bet it'll be around $100-150.
yeah, there are a couple of places that will come to you. i think Safelite auto glass does as well. B's sister just got broken into as well, it's going to be about $170 and they will come to her and vacuum out the car/glass and all that. I'm not sure which place they called, but I can find out if you like.
At work we just got an email about a lot of smash and grabs happening in the downtown area and to be sure to remove anything that creeps want to steal out of your car.
:( Sorry to hear about this.
+1 on Safelite!
Were you parked next to the statue at the greystone?
This past spring, within about a month of each other, I had a single window broken out twice on my mini-van. One time, they attempted to steal the van itself (for whatever reason).
During the same time, my neighbor behind me had their window broken on their BMW, another person a few blocks away had their mini-van stolen, and another person I know had an apartment-mate's car window broken.
All these occurred in German Village, not far from Schiller Park.
I did fill out police reports online both times & received prompt responses from CPD acknowledging receipt.
I didn't have any unrealistic expectations regarding what the police could do for something after-the-fact, but did hope my reporting the crimes might lead to increased patrols in the area.
(I don't live in GV anymore & so can't say if this wave of vandalisim continues to this day. I assume it does).
Oh yeah - and I also used Safelite both times. Drove my mini-van to Worthington(?) both times & they were done within an hour.
Safelite will come to you for next to nothing. You can even leave your key hidden and they will repair without you even being present and bill a credit card. I took a hard turn in my blazer last summer and put a window ac through my huge piece of side glass. It was like $300 for the onsite install with tinted glass. Quality work also!!

The Waterford Tower has had five cars broken into in the same manner within a one month period. A car parked along Mound Street met a similar fate. The CPD will not respond to these incidents unless the damage exceeds $3,000 we were told. You can file a report on line if you desire. This seems to be a common issue downtown and the surrounding inner city neighborhoods, such as German Village, Short North, and Brewery District. Unfortunately, it's just part of our neighborhood.
Sorry your AM got off to such a crappy start!
Every time our car was broken into, it was when it was raining, too.

Happened my second time.
Also, don't be shy about expressing surprise at how much Safelite charges to see if they'll reduce the price of the replacement & installation.
It worked for me when I told them they charged me less for the first time than they were quoting me the second time. Turns out, I was wrong, which I discovered after finding my first bill, post-phone call.
And anyway, in this economy, I think there's plenty of room for negotiation.
I heard from a friend who had their car broken into that there is now an automated attendant (non-human) you speak at to report a car break in. Thus, you can't even speak with a person and they won't even bother sending an officer out.
I don't lock my car doors, and make sure I don't leave anything valuable in the car, and that at least stops the windows from being broken.
I never had a problem ever until a couple of years ago. I figured it was some neighborhood kids, but it sounds like it's pretty widespread, so maybe it's a group of professionals.
I have zero problem with the CPD not sending an officer out.
Practically speaking, what is there left for them to do if I can fill out the report online or call it in?
Much thanks for all the help.
@ lifeliberty and others: That sounds applicable. I live downtown-ish, close to Franklin Park. (I'm never sure where the delineations between the different areas are.) The fact that it happened to other people in the area makes me fell better. From the comments and folks I've talked to, this seems a fairly common occurrence in Columbus?
The weird thing is that they could have easily broken in w/o breaking the damn window. I have manual windows and my car has been broken into a gazillion times -- it's a snap. Why break the freaking window? It honestly seemed more like vandalism. As I said, they didn't even take the GPS that was in there. They took nothing.
Safelite estimated $201, which is pretty good, and I'm waiting to hear back from Integrity Autoglass.
I've also gone back to NYC mode. At night, keep the glove box open & empty, as well as my ash tray/change container. And I make sure there's nothing else interesting looking lying around.
Even boxes *you* know are empty or contain nothing of real value can still look tempting to a perp.
FYI -- Safelite will price match, and they apparently require no proof that the other person offered that price.
Safelite gave me an estimate of $201. Then they offered to give a 10% discount to $191. I told them that another company my S.O. called had estimated $180 and that I'd need a lower price, and they gave it to me for $170. Getting my car broken into SUCKS, but getting a $30 discount helps a little.
Haha, yes, be sure to remove anything that looks like it might contain something. I once left a really nasty, clay-spattered bookbag on the floor of the car, didn't think anyone would want it... well, it actually contained all of my newly purchased art supplies for the entire semester, as well as about 20 CDs from the main library.
Good times! I am a dumbass.
