Among the experiences I had visiting my family in Philly, the least thrilling was a rock propelled at my windshield from a truck in front of me on the Turnpike. This resulted in a half-inch crack in the glass, outside of my immediate view but still problematic. As tempted as I am to go straight for Safelite because their jingle is in my head, I turn to the compiled experience of CU first.

I've heard good feedback from people who have used Safelite.
No first hand experience unfortunately... or fortunately :)

By chance have you called your insurance company? Mine has windshield repair/replacement tacked in there somewhere. I think it was $50 to have it replaced - some business waive even that (they do some sort of mathmatical wizardry behind the curtain).

safelight replaced the windshield on my car when what looked like a chunk of rebar damn near made it all the way through a few years back.
the replacement is still in good shape today.

Another vote for Safelight - they repaired a chip in the windshield with the resin they've been featuring in their commercials. The technician was courteous and they came to my office which worked great with my schedule. So far so good...

Safelite repair, Safelite replace. The best part is that they can come to you to make the repair/replacement.

Windshield repair companies seem to be a parity service. They should come to you, bring a new windshield (in case your chip/crack can't be repaired) or fix the chip in about 15-30 mins. The chip is usually covered under policy, some companies adjust off deductibles to get your business. Go with who your insurance recommends or safelite. You'll get a good fix either way.

My experience with Safelight left me totally impressed with their organization. Something very small hit my windshild a few weeks ago and made an ever so small crack. I didn't want it to get any larger and took immediate action. My insurance company referred me to Safelight. They were very flexible with their repair options: A) Meet me at work B) Meet me at home C) Do the repair in their Worthington repair center.
I chose to visit their headquarters and stop by the Tropical Nut and Fruit Outlet not too far away. Every employee I had contact with from the receptionist to one of the managers in the break area, to Chris the repair technician were just super nice. I was welcomed the second I stepped in the door by the receptionist and given a verbal tour of the facility and was offered coffee and soda in the break area! The manager I ran into wasn't assisting me, but took the time to welcome me and offered his thanks for using their service. Wow! I was stunned. It's so rare to hear that. Anywhere.
Chris brought me into the repair bay and explained the process and what to expect, and he was done fairly quick. The whole visit took less than an hour, and was very pleasant. Their corporate culture is pointed True North, as Steven Covey would eloquently point out.Because I have comprehensive coverage, this service was covered, as would the cost of a new windshield if deemed necessary. There is a small glimmer where the crack is located, just as Chris described. No big deal. Their service is warrantied should it get damaged.
If I were to pay out of pocket, it would be $70 or so. Check you policy to see what it covers, but I would have been fine paying for this one!
Safelight rocks!

My insurance has a $250 deductible (which I will correct when able). Safelite will get the call from me in the morning.

^^^ ask for Kyle. He's a great guy, will take care of you.

Check with your insurance agent. Most of the time when the windshield can be repaired, you do not have to pay your deductible.

I have used Discount Auto Glass on Livingston just east of Alum Creek and have had zero problems with their work or materials. They were actually about $100 cheaper than Safelite and are an affiliate of Progressive (whom I have my insurance through) which made everything that much easier.
