Anyone using it yet? Installed it yesterday and LOVE IT so far. Not only did it fix a ton of little idiosyncrasies my system had (conflicts, bugs, etc.), but despite seemingly using more RAM and CPU my PC definitely seems to be running faster and smoother. The organization of programs and files is really easy to traverse as well. Definitely feels like a big win so far.

free upgrade? or did you go out and purchase this? my fiancé's computer is having some of those irritating idiosyncrasies...

They have a free 1 year download thing for it right now, basically an open beta. Apparently June of next year it will start warning you that it will stop working, but I kept my restore partition with XP if needed.

Been using it since they had the first open Beta. It is pretty great, the RC candidate released last month is even better.
The full release is October 22nd I believe.

The full release is October 22nd I believe. That's what I'm using, the RC Candidate. Example of success: I had just picked up Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, which played smooth, great graphics...and absolutely no sound. Ubisoft had no clue, no one did (except the usual "update your drivers" advice). Installed Windows 7, reinstalled the game, works perfect with sound.

I have it installed on my PC that I built to handle vista and it was like putting a turbocharger on my PC. With a Quad-core processor and 8 gigs of RAM Photoshop launched in about 25 seconds, it now launches in 6. Careful with your RC Core, its not one year to the day it will start resetting your PC every two hours sometime early 2010 if you dont buy the actual release. Overall, Win7 is a winner.

yeah, its June 11, 2010 I think (somewhere in mid June).

After using it for 2 years, I'm still happy with Vista. Despite being a bit sluggish at first, each service pack has made it faster. I've only had one instance of crashing that required a full system restart. Despite all the "are you sure you want to do this" warnings when you're changing settings, I find it easy to use on a day to day basis. Everything just works. I see no reason to upgrade, especially for $129.

That being said, I've had little to no problem with Vista also. 7 is just better though.

If it's more/less an update to fix their own problems, why does the cost fall on the consumer?

Microcenter was running some great pre-order deal Win 7 Premium for $49 and $99 for Win 7 Pro but that have now expired. Windows 7 is a massive improvement over Vista. There is a reason why most enterprises did not deploy Vista. After SP2 it's finally started to be stable, but that was 2 years after it's was released.
What is everyone favorite new features in Win 7? Mine is hands down MED-V.

Favorites for me so far, the taskbar and the ridiculously fast boot.

Looks like NewEgg is still doing pre-orders
Pre-orders are also available at Amazon, Microsoft, Bestbuy. Rumor has it that the these pre-orders deals will stop on July 11th.

Oh...one more favorite thing...the fact they didn't have outlook express bundled made me stop using that stupid ass program and download Thunderbird :D

The preorders is standard Microsoft pricing and is availabel for a limited time.
With a Quad-core processor and 8 gigs of RAM

Love it, love it, love it. It is to Vista what XP was to Windows ME (from a usability, not technology perspective). Cleaner, faster, smaller, excellent driver support even in the RC. I've installed both the 32bit and 64bit, 64bit oddly seems slightly less "stable" than the 32, more faults and a few Blue screens of Death. Even with that, The full price of an upgrade would seem justified in my book.

I'll probably just stick with OSX 10.5 for now. :D
(Sorry. I had to.)
