Lent is the period before Easter. I'm going with "no." :P
(It's not Advent, either.)
Maybe they went with purple because someone finally told them that that bilious aqua/green hue looks more like the color of some kind of slime than money.

I assume the aqua color was for Ovarian Cancer awareness, as that was the color and the first time I noticed it was the day of the OC 5k.
According to Wikipedia:
A purple ribbon is worn to raise awareness for Alzheimer's Disease, cystic fibrosis, epilepsy, Huntington's disease, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Autism, Animal abuse, Arnold-Chiari Malformation, Eating Disorders, Gastrointestinal Cancers, Pancreatic cancer and cancer survival. It is worn by trade union members on Workers' Memorial Day (April 28), to commemorate workers killed, disabled, injured or made unwell by their work.[1] It is also a symbol of pride worn by pagans on Pagan Pride Day.[2] It is also a symbol used by 4 R Kids Sake whose mission is to protect our children from preventable injuries and death in and around cars. They were the driving force behind purple ribbon month in CA.
Additionally, at county and state fairs in the United States, it is the award for placing seventh in a contest.
Though...I suppose that just narrows the options, instead of giving a specific answer. I feel like Sarah Palin...is All of the Above an option? ;)

Ah, that explains it, then. It was clearly for Arnold-Chiari Malformation.

I hate it when my Arnold-Chiari is malformed :(
