Yeah, it is. I don't mind the standard noises at all. Cars, ambulances, helicopters, people, buses, construction. It's all fine.
What I'm not a big fan of is unnecessary or excessive noise. And I think that jackhammering in a residential area at 4am on a weeknight is excessive.
But maybe that's just me.

Can't imagine how horrible it must have been for the residents of the neighborhoods when the highway was put in. Raising a ton of houses, cutting street access, and many peoples homes all of a sudden going from a quiet residential area to being next to a freeway. I am sure the construction noise just added to their burden.
I love being able to get my amazon orders delivered to my door from all across the country with 'free super saver shipping in 3 to 5 days'*, but there was a high cost paid for that convenience.
*possible through a highly subsidized fuel and highway system.

At Linda's place, I can look up at the traffic on 270. It does become a sort of constant background noise, plus the occasional loud exhaust. I can see the tops of trucks over the sound wall, and judge how fast the traffic is moving. Somewhere on a nearby bridge apron there's some spot that's occasionally hit by a truck, and there's a deep boom you can feel.

You know, my new place in 5xNW is actually the quietest place I've ever lived. It's quieter than where I grew up in Groveport (airplanes, 317) and even our farm in Pickaway County (machinery, airplanes, ambulances going to the trailer park across the road, shotguns, quads and motorcycles that were 3 miles away since there was nothing to block the sound and me riding quads and dirt bikes). Real rural areas are quiet, but "the country" is often not.
I remember that when I lived in Bexley that I was able to avoid traffic jams on 70 by listening to the pitch of the highway sound. Low pitch = bad, no sound = really bad. I'd take Livingston or Main if the audible traffic report was bad.
