Why I hate Polaris

(kind of just feel like complaining today)

1. Is there any type of master plan for Polaris or are they just going to keep building stuff in random spots

2. 7 lanes for a non-highway. Really?

3. There is not one pedestrian friendly part AND if you do try and cross Polaris Parkway they dont even have cross walks.

4. You have a strip mall on one side and a traditional mall on the other that seem to be battling each other (ex. the closing and moving of Barnes and Noble)

5. The cheap "cookie cutter" condos run rampant up here.

There are more but I'm interested to hear other people's thoughts.

You should just not go there if it causes you this much anxiety, lol. I have to because I work there, but otherwise I'd never even know it existed :)

The layout of Polaris reminds me of how the Huntington Mall in WV is designed. There was probably a solid layout and blueprint for how the site should look and operate. Then the designers got hammered one night and decided to just build everything with no regard to logic, traffic flow, or safety. I always feel like I'm testing fate to get out of the mall and back onto whatever that road is that leads to 71.

I really try not to leave the confines of the bank's compound. And I come in the back way so it's rare I'm ever on Polaris, but I hear ya. I saw 2 people trying to cross once and thought, "They must have a death wish!!"

I am not a fan for all five of those original reasons.

And I really don't think the "lifestyle"addition to the mall is going to do a whole lot for the area overall in terms of long-term sustainability. I'll give it 20 more years tops before it looks like present day Brice Road, or 161/Morse on the NE side.

Polaris is the sixth ring of hell, and I go there as infrequently as I can. The only reason I ever go there is to shop at The Great Indoors, and I do like Arrhaus furniture.

The traffic does move, but it is at the expense of all aesthetic and pedestrian concerns.

But apparently some people like it.

polaris is the boil on the face of the columbus metro area. Its nasty and unpleasant.

And, like any other boil, one day it will reach critical mass and become just another open festering sore that the future residents of this burg will have to address.

I don't get the appeal. It's so spread out that you can't even just abandon your car once you get there & walk around the rest of the dayÃ¢â‚¬Â¦you pretty much have to drive from store to store. I'm not a big fan of Easton, but I'll shop there 100 times before I voluntarily go to Polaris.

I hate Polaris too. I can't think of one worthwhile reason to go there. It gives me anxiety just thinking about it. Barf.

100% agree. Even walking through the parking lots is crazy! So this adds to my next thing I hate about it:

Why all the Brice road hate? It's literally a time capsule to consumerism gone amuck now. Plus, with all the abandoned buildings, traffic has been much better lately. It's only half-abandoned, so it's not nearly as epic as City Center was in its prime.

The whole area has been designed by committee, bureaucracy, marketing analytics, predicted value, etc. I saw someone trying to bike around there this weekend, wow, good luck to them.

On a positive note, I did however have a fresh, hot Krispy Kreme right off the line from there... omg...

I don't particularly mind Polaris, and I don't think that it'll go the way of Brice Rd. unless the neighborhoods around it decline as well--which could happen, but I don't think is particularly likely. Dublin, Powell, and Westerville (particularly its northern reaches) aren't likely to become wastelands even if suburban living isn't the residential trend of the next generation. Brice Rd.'s immediate environs are Reynoldsburg, Pickerington, and the Independence and Walnut Ridge neighborhoods of Columbus. There's less money there to sustain a retail mecca.

I do hate how hard it is to shop on both sides of Polaris Pkwy in a single shopping outing, but that doesn't generally stop me from going. More to the point, though, I simply don't have much reason to go to Polaris. I wouldn't mind going if I had someplace there I actually wanted to hit, but I seldom do. I've gone for Molly Woo's, for Saks Fifth Ave. (for an interviewing suit), and a couple of times with a girl I know in Westerville, since it's not that far a drive from her place. At OSU, though, almost everything I could possibly see myself needing was available at some store or other at Lennox, or online.
