So Lynne and I have decided to go to Cleveland and get married on August 1st. (8/1/11 - we started dating in 81, and are getting marrried in 11. Cute, right?)
Our issue is we have no idea who we can get to marry us up there. No big ceremony. No hoopla. We just need someone who is legally capable of saying the magic words and signing the certificate.
Any suggestions?

You might consider, given the timing, having a friend be ordained and do it that way, if it fits with your other requirements.

We've thought about this, but we don't have anybody up there, and the timing is such that we'd have to have someone drive up to Cleveland for this, and we just don't want to put anyone out like that. This is designed to be very low key.

You can also contact the county clerks office who will give you a list of justices of the peace who will perform the service. Also consider contacting city hall, I have friends who were married at city hall here and were quite happy.

Thanks! I'm gonna be working the phones today, but I thought I'd do a little creative crowd sourcing first, and I've already gotten some really good suggestions.

The clergy also has to register in ohio.
Takes a little while but there is a place you file on Broad.
I can do Christian and Buddhist. But I've already packed up the forms.
How about in Chicago? :)
When we were getting our licence in Chicago they were performing 'justice of the peace' weddings in the room down the hall. Filling out the form took about 30 minutes. People were getting married faster than it took to fill out the form.

I don't know about Cleveland. Mazel tov on getting married. Mae and I met on July 14, 1989; did not start dating until 2007; got married in a civil service on April 1, 2010; and had our Jewish wedding TODAY, July 14, 2011. Not as neat as your 30 year wait, but almost.
I hope you make it to your 50th wedding anniversary and beyond!

I should have followed up on this thread. Sorry.
We had a wonderful weekend in Cleveland. We stayed at the Double Tree downtown. Ate at Lola, Fire, and Seoul Garden. Spent time at a great chocolate shop called Lilly's and bought some great food stuffs at the West Side market. We actually came back to Columbus and got married at a little wedding chapel right next door to the Jury Room, where we promptly adjourned to for drinks and appetizers. (BTW: half price apps and $3 glasses of wine on Mondays? Awesome)

Mazel tov! I hope there was some humor at your wedding. Nine days after we got married, Mae and I went up to Cleveland to see one of my nephews get married. It took place in a Catholic church. To make a long story short, my 88 year old Jewish mother accidentally dropped a cheeseburger into the holy water. Oy vey gevalt!
Congratulations! I hope the two of you have a long, happy marriage.
