Who takes books

Have two large boxes of books.
Some recent hardbacks
some DIY
some philosophy
and a set on encyclopedia books that are about 90 years old that have cool plate pictures.
I've hauled them from Chicago to Philly to Columbus and I don't want to haul them again. All great books, I think a few have leather bindings.
Anyone know of a charity that will take them?
Oh, and while I have your book attention. Someone left a couple of books behind the mantel of the chimney in our German Village house.
They are from the 1880's and, of course, in German. These I was thinking of eBaying unless someone knows a place that buys them.

The Sporeprint Radical Library and Social Space will probably take some of the Philosophy and DIY ones. http://sporeprint.info/ They are located at E 5th Ave and Hamlet and are open a few days a week.
I'll take any atlases or geography books you have.

Most libraries will take your DIY stuff and other books that aren't competely outdated-- encyclopedias and technology books (think old school Java) are a no-no. If they can't circulate them in the collection, they'll sell them in a book sale where proceeds benefit the library.
In grandview there's the Acorn Bookshop- that's where I would take the german 1880s books. Also you can check out whether or not they're worth anything on http://www.abebooks.com...sometimes that's where I find an approximate price on my old books.

They probably won't be added to a Library collection, like mrosu21 said, but feel free to donate to the Friends of the Library sale. Libraries can use any dough they can get... If you want to donate to my library, shoot me a PM and I'll give you the details :)

I took a carload of books to Half Price Books a few months ago. For old books they tend to give you a dollar or two a box. They recycle the books they don't sell. For newer books that were in demand they paid about 5 dollars per book. They had a few older books in the store but I wouldn't take them there. They also take cassette tapes, records, CD's, and current magazines.

You might be able to get some cash for them at Half Price. If not, I'm sure they have some sort of charity that they can either recommend or send them straight to.

I'm a big fan of donating them to Friends of the Library. I've been taking them to the main branch downtown on Grant, but any library system should have a Friends of the Library.

That's what I wanted to do and why I've been hauling the around.
Where do I give them to the library?
I could not find the spot. Usually there is some dock I can pull up to.

Yeah, Half Price is big on donating books they can't sell to several different charities.

The Friends of the Library Store at MAin Library downtown - 96 South Grant - always accepts used books, CDs, Books-On-Tapes, Albums and Tapes. They sell them and the proceeds benefit the #1 Rated Library in the Country.
