Mere - couldn't agree more. Its very frustrating when we as advocates really try to move forward and 'venom' from above is posted (the point i was trying to make) bc it just perpetuates the past.
I'm very happy working on both sides of the spectrum while each side may go at it completely differently, the goal in the end is the same and that's what I admire.

Sorry for going off on a tangent, but it rankles me when someone brings weight into a conversation where it has no place in.
This is such a nice angle on this discussion. Here's why:
The bicycle is the only piece of truly democratic exercise equipment. You may be young, old, short, tall, over-weight, under-weight, a strong rider, a weak rider...and none of it matters to the bicycle. The proper bicycle will conform to you. You do not need to conform to the bicycle. The bicycle exists for just about everyone.
This democracy of the bicycle is one of the reasons I am passionate about the mission of CB and other organizations like YB, the League of American Bicyclists and the Ohio Bicycle Federation. Find the organization that fits your style and join it...and be on the board or be a member...
Folks, your passion shines through in your posts; let it shine through in the way you support bicycling.

This thread is hilarious!

It was not my intention to bring the Yay Bikes! - Consider Biking split in on this discussion. That I why I chose to post it on Columbus Underground. I love Columbus and am simply pointing out what I consider to be a flaw in the make-up of Consider Biking. I am concerned when there is a lack of seats at the table, but I have no personal ambitions. I am concerned that those on the "outside" seem to have no voice in the proceedings. I want it noted that I DID NOT make any disparaging comments about the condition of the people on the board.
Note to Jody and J.Matthews. Walker made a good point. I would like more information, including bylaws, on how the board members are chosen. I may wish to ask for a seat at the table. I have attended several meetings and have yet to be asked for my input on projects and have offered to volunteer for projects. To date, I have heard nothing. I will check out Facebook as well.
To Meredith: Hope things are going well at Yay Bikes! Congratulations on your engagement.

+1 to lots on this thread. Thanks, Meredith, for the kind comments.
And, I like some of Paris87's comments & the Truckin' dudes....the most important thing we can do to make our community better for bicycling....is for all of us to get out on bikes. (If you're scared, or have an obstacle...ask for help - most of us fall over ourselves to help beginners!) Then...if you want to do more....pick a place/thing/talent you enjoy, and do something constructive to advance the cycling movement. We're blessed to have lots of great groups....doing lots of great stuff in Central Ohio. Join in!
Yes, Rod, as Walker implied, many/most corporate, non-profit Boards are populated by votes of the Board. Interestingly, this past Fall, we had 51 people recomended to our Nominating Committee to fill 5 vacant positions. Lots of willing talent for volunteer positions, eh?! We're not an old-fashioned, bike club where the leadership is generated by some popularity vote. We're a professionally staffed, 501c3 corporation....governed by a Board of Directors....with serious legal & fiduciary responsibilities. Board development is critical to the success of our strategic efforts and resource development.
Rod...we talk all the time on other issues...if you'd like to understand how this process works...just ask. I'm happy to do so. I really respect you for the time you take to show up at public meetings and voice your opinion. Thanks!

Rod, I know you specifically told me you wanted to volunteer to help with mailings. You were not the only one. I have engaged one of the 30+ volunteers who came to that meeting. It is hard to utilize folks when there is not a task that is easy to delegate. All I can do is apologize and promise to do better.
In what way do you think the current board has a "lack of seats" at the table? http://www.considerbiking.org/about/board-staff/ 13 Board members in this pic and 2 not present.

I know Rod and love working with him, don't want to see his name dragged through the mud. Rod is the OP and never made any comments about the personal weight of the CB board. Please go back and read the entire post and know who has made which comments. My mistake - I was looking at the quoted text above my post, and accidentally said OP when I should have referred to littlefishy. An honest mistake, which should have been obvious to you when reading my post and what I was reacting to. If I had the ability to go in and edit now, I would. But you don't have to be such a douche about it, dude. Not worth getting bent out of shape.

I don't think I was. Just wanted to point out the error lest any other attribution errors occurred.

people who are being a "douche" do not use the word "please". Lo2w is far from being a "douche".
