A friend of mine is in the middle or renovating their home and needs to hire a new drywall person or crew. Does anyone have any recommendations? Tips for finding someone? Horror stories?

If you have time, drywall really isn't that difficult. Measure twice, cut once, and do not rush the job. Do it during the cooler months if you can, because you need to be completely covered from head to toe if you're working with a large amount of insulation. It's pretty rewarding, too, because at the end you think to yourself, "I just built a whole damn room!"

DIY is definitely a good option, but not in this case, as they have a looming deadline (impending baby) and an entire upstairs to finish soon. There are some high ceilings and such that necessitate more than one person.

Unless you are pretty handy or have done it before I would not recommend it. There is a certain "art" to hanging drywall, I've never mastered it or been satisfied with what I'd done and would recommend a professional.
I bet Chris Sherman (Sherman on here) does drywall.Posted 1 year ago # -
How did you get the nickname? Should this be a another thread?

And did you get that nickname from someone skilled in drywall?

Also I think Sherm is Chris Sherman on here these days. Definitely DM him.

Chris Sherman could probably hang drywall while delivering a baby and polishing off a six pack. He's that good.

Yep I'm gonna have Chris re-do our bathroom as soon as we take care of some other stuff.

I have great drywallers; They just finished 2 attics and a basement for customers of mine. They are commercial guys (doing the new Kroger now) who do side work for me and a coupla other guys.
They are honest and very reasonable. You can message me for more details if you'd like.Posted 1 year ago # -

Ha! Thanks guys. Lately I've been subbing it out. This lady is fast good and cheap. Her crew hung taped and spread the 1 coat of mud for 3000 wsqft in 5 hours. Amazing!

To which lady do you sub it out, Sherm?
I need a 22x22 10' ceiling done ASAP. No time to do it myself.

While we're talking about drywall...
I hate bothering contractors for quotes when I'm only trying to figure out how much to budget for repairs. So I'll ask here: What should I expect to pay for drywall tear-out/replacement for a 10'x12' room with an 8' ceiling (including the ceiling?)
And what do you do if you have wood trim - does it get removed and replaced? Everything we've done so far has been a gut-job, so forgive my ignorance here.

I say budget around $1,000 - $1,500. I work in commercial construction so my budget may be on the high side.

Thanks! I'll double that because that's how my house rolls.

Joe, Yes. Remove and replace Trim.
