The official white house webpage is asking supporters to turn in poeple speaking out against the health care policy or sending emails!?

"These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. I don't read "If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov."

as "turn in poeple speaking out against the health care policy or sending emails."

they want to put up their agenda on the issue versus others being circulated. they saw one out there and developed a response (as the blog post shows). people can now view them both and determine which they believe. nobody who made the example that Linda Douglass references in the example was 'turned in','rounded up,' 'herded in' or 'silenced' in any way as far as I can tell. They can make more arguments and post more videos stating their opinion.

I think this probably has a lot to do with the fact that ultra-conservative, ultra-right wing organizations (rallytherecess.com or somethng like that) are shipping people all over the country to try to disrupt town hall meetings and pretty much shout down any attempt at conversation. It was all over MSNBC yesterday. The gop is trying to say that those are grassroots efforts, but it seems like the people in charge of the initiative are pretty well off leftovers from several other right wing groups and former Bush people.

If I remember correctly, there were quite few protests during W.'s tenure, but I don't remember anyone asking to turn them in to the whitehouse. But maybe that's just because W didn't email.

I agree that it's creepy. It's like they want to suppress freedom of speech by asking everyone to rat out the neighbors that disagree with the government. I doubt silencing the critics is actually the intent, but it comes off that way and it feels a little too "Big Brother" for me.

love 'em or hate 'em, i think this campaign and administration is a turning point in how all parties, campaigns and candidates use and respond to technology and viral marketing. but don't doubt that some people on the Bush team and every preceding administration weren't in charge of monitoring this type of opposition stuff (the venues of which -blogs, youtube, etc... - have also arguably multiplied several times in this decade).

again, i see no harm in them asking for people to identify opposing opinions out there in order to develop a response. now if they mention they have The Crossbow Project from Real Genius and can zap the authors from space, then we have an issue.

But it's not just protesting. These folks are completely shouting speakers down and preventing any kind of discussion at all. I would be careful about proclaiming msnbc a brainwashing outfit as long as fox is going strong. The video is a little disturbing because it seems like they're all trotting out people like that old lady from the McCain townhall to throw out false accusations about the health care plan.

Agree or disagree, thee should at least be discussion about it. The whole goal is to prevent any movement before the recess. I don't understand why people don't understand that if Obama fails, the country fails. God forbid the health care system gets fixed, but the gop wants to scare people by telling them that Obama's killing old people (because the new plan coves living wills, which was inserted by republicans) or other mistruths and fantasies.

I'm sick of tea baggers scaring old people by telling them their doctors will be gone and that the government will decide their medical fate. It's just not true.

And this is exactly what they're seeing all over the country. And, like I said, it's not actual people from wherever they're speaking. They're being bused in for the specific purpose of disrupting the conversation. This whole half-truth thing seem sto be the way the gop is going to operate on everythng now. From Obama's citizenship to this, it's a frightening trend they're starting. Does the gop really think this is teh way to attract those in the middle?

Yes, that's exactly what they're doing. I encourage people to disagree with any administration. I never encourage being a sheep. But discussion on an issue should be encouraged, not drowned out. As far as my "country fails" statement, I knew there would be some lols on this, but the things he's trying to do are overall better for the country. The gop doesn't seem to want progress on anything.

I really didn't read it as snitching, just trying to keep ahead of the rumors so they can get this thing some popular support. Linda Douglass does communications and press, not justice and criminal.

How does making sure everyone has insurance hurt the country. You know, the other day, I heard the most outrageous arguement, basically saying that young people are healthy and don't need insurance. I wish I could find it to back it up or remember who said it...
