I'll also be in Philadelphia, and could use recommendations for a good place for breakfast. Thanks for your help.

What part? How fancy? Do you like diner food or do you want the full blown champagne brunch?

I'll be there during the week, so I guess champagne is out. I'm near Suburban Station, so anywhere that I can get to easily by SEPTA is fine.

Check out the Beauty Shop Cafe.
I've never been there, but my friend Jon is the owner!!
2001 Fitzwater St. Philadelphia PA 19146
215.546.1002
Cafe/Coffeeshop, Graduate Hospital Area
UPenn alum Jonathan Adler’s café is a welcome addition to a purely residential strip of Fitzwater. According to Adler’s research, barbers and beauticians have occupied the cozy 450-square-foot space since 1937; it’s heritage he celebrates via subtle décor touches, including checkered floors and retro molding. Food-wise, they serve simple sandwiches and soups. Beauty Shop is the first café in the city to carry beans roasted by Chestnut Hill Coffee Company. Open Mon.-Tue., 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; Wed.-Fri., 7 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sat.-Sun., 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

I'd go with that one! Wonderful coffee, that's for sure.

OK... in the ... thousands... of times I've been out in Philly, I don't think I've ever been awake enough to eat breakfast downtown.
My life really has changed.

I always either went out of the city (usually New Hope or Lambertville) for a destination brunch or just hit the nearest diner. Melrose Diner is probably the most famous one to visit, but it's too far north of where you are.
Yeah, I know all the great places to nosh here, but I've pretty much forgotten my own home town in three short years.

Reading terminal market

You know, I went by there for lunch one day, and didn't actually see anything I wanted to eat.
And the correct answer for breakfast in Philadelphia is the Midtown Diner on 18th. Just a block or two from Suburban Station, decent diner fare, friendly staff, and the best Bloody Mary I've ever had.

You are suggesting a Steven Star resturant over Amish food?

I have no idea what a "Steven Star restaurant" is. The Amish section of the market was closed when I went there, and I have it on good authority that the Amish make lousy Bloody Marys.
