I wondered the same thing! I got on the auditor's website one day last week and it had someone else's name on it! He's apparently just gone quietly in the night.

I would help host a party for him...he was awesome! (unless it was something horrible and quietly covered up)

I was at a Pat Tiberi event on Saturday and he was there. Pat introduced him as now retired auditor Testa.

Wow, it was all so hush-hush.

Local Republicans tapped Clarence Mingo, a lawyer and Gulf War veteran, as the new Franklin County auditor last night.
"For some, these offices are political prizes. For me, it is nothing but a privilege," said Mingo, 37. His wife, Angela, and parents watched as he was selected by unanimous vote for the appointment. He promised party members that "you will have dignified conduct and you will have absolutely the best I have to offer."
Auditor Joe Testa, who retired July 31 after 17 years on the job, had endorsed Mingo after meeting with him and a handful of other candidates.

If memory serves, the retirement had been long-planned.

I didn't know Testa was that old. Still, assuming nothing more nefarious comes to light, it's nice to see a political retirement actually happen because *gasp* the guy got old.

hardly a cover upwhile I don't watch TV news, I follow the dispatch metro pretty closely. Sadly, I've noticed that their categories are somewhat random so something that I would categorize as "local" ends up in the politics or business section.

It's annoying. You sorta have to at least scan the headlines in all the sections to really catch everything. Fortunately it's a small publication.
And if you don't watch TV news you miss out on all those pictures of puppies and footage of reporters standing in the rain in front of the courthouse where something is supposedly going on.

Was sorry to hear it when Testa announced a month or two ago. We *love* the auditor's website.
When my cousin moved here from Maryland several years ago, we mined that site for all sorts of information about the houses under consideration. We joked Joe TTesta was her second friend in Columbus.
When I was looking for houses this summer, I had a far-flung posse from around the country checking the on-line realtors sites every day. Tthe next step was the county auditor's site, to look into the history of the house -- and all the neighbors. You could even get a feel for what the block looked like from checking out the photos of adjoining houses. Being "Testad" was a crucial part of a house making the cut.
When my home purchase was finalized, my cousin and my sister (in Arizona) both sent me a note to congratulate me on being "Testa-fyable" -- ie. appearing in the dataabase as the new owner.
And now that we've turned him into a verb -- he steps down.
Somehow, being "Mingo-fied" doesn't sound as good....
